"Bristol City FC have become the first club in the country to launch a brand new Trainee Coach Initiative through their Academy, aimed at bringing grassroots coaching and the professional game closer together."

I see this as a major new development, which may just start a revolution in English football.
Improved standards right from the roots of English football, and the clubs will benefit from higher quality youngsters as will our national team eventually.

However I reckon we do need to re-think the tactics and attitudes to youth coaching here, which is often too competitive and not focussed enough on skill, technique, ball retention and self-expression.

    Great initiative by our club.
Agree with you re junior football - also think that youth acadamies at clubs put too much emphasis on size/power

Lets hope they give the 16 places to South Bristol Coaches from Youth sides who have a natural affinity to Bristol City like City supporters and Ashton Boys etc.

Doesn't sound like the actions of the BCFC from the last umpteen years but, then again, a new broom is always brought in to sweep up the accumulated garbage. Every day I like what I hear about my club and am tempted to say "about bloody time". An interesting season is on our doorstep and I look forward most to seeing players wear our shirt with pride and commitment.

Its an opportunity for sixteen established coaches across the South West to further their coaching qualifications.

Brazillian soccer schools start at two years old in Bristol and focus on those elements.
