I always think it a mistake to comment so soon after a game but today I think I want to, a proud mackem I am.

Now I’m sure many will not agree and yes if we look hard I’m sure we will find fault, however, here is my take.

Forget about the top of the table and the bottom. Forget about whats gone, what Bruce should have done and about Bruce and the future, look at the now.

We started with a 4-4-2 and with three players out in O’Shea, Mig and Vaughan. Within minutes we lost Wickham so that 4 changes. Forget about weakened Man U team and look who they had on their home ground, we came away with a 1-0 defeat and should have had a draw, maybe could have won.

That to me is a massive step forward and gives me confidence of the games ahead.

Westwood sealed Gordons sale and made Mig our new number 2, he was fantastic, his save yes but more his confidence and command.

The back 4, including Richardson I thought were outstanding, O’Shea has a fight to get back in.

Midfield was good and Catts came back with a bang, should keep his place.

Our strikers we know need strengthening but Ji did OK and 2 we were away at united.Get Wickham back and a good buy in January.

Yes we need to do better and yes we still need to get those wins, I am confident we will.

What, IMO, we need more than any of that is a run of luck, still not getting any.

    Just my initial thoughts.

    RIchardson outstanding?
You watched a different game to me Syd.
His positional sense is ****, he allowed numerous crosses unimpeded into our box, including one that eventually led to the goal.
His passing was once again dire either to a Utd player or out of play.
He headed a ball off the line. <applause> just what he was put there for.

    Lots of positives today.

Back 4 is looking better and better, to be honest Bardo looks better at RB then OShea to me, he offer more going forward and is stronger in the tackle. OShea is better in the air I can see him moving into the middle if/when Brown or Turner get injured.

Richardson solid again, not easy when you marking Nani, someone said earlier he should have been closing down cross's more, I disagree being a full back myself and playing week in week out I know if your playing against a better player the last thing you do is close them down quickly because they will simply go round you into the space you have left, its a school boy mistake. I will critisise Ricco though because his short passing was poor and he needs to improve it, defensively he is looking better and better.

Meyler is going to be a star, that tackle on Rooney was superb and not a foul, the lad got the ball. He looks like he could have it all, good in the air, good on the ground, tough in the tackle and a good passer of the ball.

Westwood looked the part, he should be No.1 now and its up to the other 2 to get their place back.

Dodgy own goal, dodgy penalty decision and chances missed. Man U played badly because we played well.

I just hope whatever it is with Wickham is not serious.

This very much so. Bit more confidence and a bit of luck and we cudov came away with something. I can already see the 'man utd were too caught up in the alex 25yrs etc etc' motd script however i thought our performance was encouraging. Very dissapointed with Sess however, really thought he was going to be the difference maker today.

Totally disagree mate, for me he had a very good day against again (following playing against walcott) another top premier league winger. One aspect of his game which worried me tho was his distribution (unusual for a midfielder turned defender). Too many times looking for a worldy pass over the top instead of keeping the ball and keeping it simple.

We didn't create enough clear chances to deserve to win, though I did like the way Bruce put some big ****ers up there, as their defence looked a bit shaky in the air.

Otherwise? Great gutsy performance! <applause> HAWAYY!!!

Not many teams will create enough chances to beat Manure. I'm proud of today, but still troubled by the f*****g mags.

When will their good luck - and thats what it is - run out?

    F*****g toon. Third. F*****g ridiculous.

Forget about them Billy, is it worth the bother, long time to go, a long long time. We may catch them we may not but right now its us we need to look at. Its been a hard slog but bit by bit we will get there.

Tiz a long season lads. Ive watched both games today (toon and us) to be honest there wasnt a great deal between the 2performances, however it summed up our season a bit.

Newcastle - og to get them on their way, blatant penalty for Everton (taylor handball) missed

SAFC - og just before half time, given penalty and then had it taken away (from the looks of things probably correctly)

Lets stay positive, hope Connor isnt out for 2long and get behind the lads, 8-9points from the next 4games, KTF!

Nani corner, Welbeck got infront of his marker to flick it on at the front post, Brown was close and the ball flicked off him and went in. Wssnt Anton esque in its deflection, obv cudov marked Welbeck better but a fair bit of bad luck in there.

Richardson was awful, offered nothing defensively, nothing in final third and his distribution was crap.

Sess is a quality player, we just cant seem to get the best out of him,

We definitltey deserved a point today tho, westwood was a major plus and elmo too.

I couldn't watch it either, so did some gardening and listened to it on 5 live. I'll be watching MOTD tonight, because Man Utd didn't get things all their own way. To lose at OT to Man Utd by an own goal shows how good we were at breaking up their play and defending our goal.

Is there any update on Connors injury?

Id say a bit harsh mate, i'll go along with his distribution being poor but what does offer nothing defensively mean? I dont recall the goal being his fault or any major lapses in concentration or poor play of his resulting in a Man Utd chance?

Westwood was a definate plus tho, tho the Elmo shout is a touch confusing, he wasnt on that long and I dont remember him having much impact.

Was more pleased with Catts return (not his biggest fan) but thought he harried the opposition well and kept his composure, no rash challenges or stupid bookings.

Bit gutted Seb's guna b banned tho.

Agree with the general opinion on todays game, I thought it was one of our best performances of the season as a team that is starting to gel. For those who regularly have a down on Richardson, give the lad a break, if you are going to give an honest critique of his game make sure it is balanced .......... and not just 'crap or s**t' .... as this adds nothing to the debate. He was up against one of the best wingers in the Prem and did well!!.

Why should I give him a break?
If he plays badly I say so.
The only time I mentioned the word **** was in his positional sense, which is ****.
At least today he wasn't dragging Brown out of position all game.
I only saw him block one tackle, the rest of the time he just let the oppo cross the ball by standing off them.
Rooney was hitting 40 yard balls to the wing and he just watched it fly over his head. (More than once too.)
It was his lack of effort to block the cross that led to the corner they scored from.
The other word I used was dire, in connection to his passing ability, which is erm? Dire.
    Balanced enough for you?
