Remember reading Claridges autobiography years ago and he said then Beck identified really good players for his team-there was no need to play that way. Grew the grass longer in the corners, scuffed the pitch up to stop teams passing the ball etc. He shouldnt be near anything to do with our national team or coaching set up.
Heard this on Talkshyte this morning.......unberfuckinlieveable!!! We're trying to gradually change the culture of British football round root and branch, so the FA appoint the inventor of hoooooofball to a senior FA coaching position.
Jesus wept. You'd struggle to make this **** up. It really is no wonder we're decades behind the rest of the world with appointments like this taking place. Whoever appointed this clown needs sacking.
And what about putting a layer of sand on the pitch so the ball wouldn't roll? Younger fans really don't appreciate the horror of this news.
If we assume he was the "best qualified person" for the job - how bad must the other candidates have been. Personally I wouldn't even think he was qualified to be kit manager for a lower league team.
Tigerrev - the future has never been in safe hands, look at the people getting appointed directors of football for example over here and also how many directors have played the game or FA Board members. to get success the game needs rebuilding from top to bottom.
People clamoured for years to have 'someone who played the game' in charge of UEFA and now we've got probably the best European to EVER play the game people still moan....
I did some work at Lincoln when he was manager there. Had a chart in the first team dressing room to log who had hit the most balls into "paradise alley" between the penalty box and touchline. The grass was about half a foot long there. Saw one player in pre season hauled off cause he brought the ball down on halfway line, turned, beat five men and scored from 20 yards . Beck screamed in his face that his job was just to flick it on not f**k about with it. Hosepipe to hose players down before the game etc . Really had to be seen to be believed. Players hated it, to the extent that when we got in one morning one of them had taken a dump in his kettle.
no matter how rubbish our jobs may be - at least our jobs have never been to play under the loony, it must have been soul-destroying to have to put up with that for however many years until another club wanted to buy you. Have any players who played under him become coaches since?
