Four years ago today Clint Dempsey became the first American to score a hat trick in the Premier League in our 5-2 win over Newcastle. please log in to view this image Quite a tidy period for the Deuce; the day before he was named USA’s player of the year and a fortnight earlier he had scored his first hat trick in England, against Charlton in the third round of the FA Cup. In the Newcastle match we had managed just one shot in an appalling first-half performance, and deservedly fell behind to a superb Danny Guthrie long-range drive as half-time approached. The second half however was something different with not only Clint but the effervescent Bobby Zamora on song – The team that day was: Stockdale, Kelly, Hangeland, Senderos, John Arne Riise, Ruiz (Baird 46), Murphy, Sidwell (Johnson 37), Duff, Dempsey (Frei 90), Zamora.
