Independent football regulator: Government White Paper outlines plans including powers around owners' tests and breakaway leagues "These bold new plans will put fans back at the heart of football, protect the rich heritage and traditions of our much-loved clubs and safeguard the beautiful game for future generations," says Prime Minister Rishi Sunak The creation of an independent regulator Blocking English clubs from joining breakaway competitions, for example, the European Super League Preventing repeats of financial failings seen at many clubs in England Introducing a more stringent owners' and directors' test to protect clubs and fans Greater fan representation, giving fans power to be able to stop owners changing the name of a club, the badge and traditional club colours Making sure a fair distribution of money is sent down the English football pyramid from the Premier League https://www.skysports.com/football/...ers-around-owners-tests-and-breakaway-leagues
Any thoughts? Good or Bad idea? Will it be advantageous for Bristol City? Is it bad or good to have political control? Is it a Tory government being sensible or attempting more populism with our national sport?
could be a real concoction of rule and idea changing before final draught ... money down the pyramid...good thing every penny helps and it will likely be smallish amounts but important amounts for clubs 8 divisions + downward!
I think all are good points In theory. Depends how clever some clubs lawyers are at interpreting them ! I especially like the redistribution of wealth down the English football leagues. The smaller clubs need to survive and the amount of money in and around the Prem is obscene.
The disparity between them and us has become ridiculous when you look at the money spent and the expected salaries are beyond a joke. Whether or not this will change things is a wait and see game but quite honestly I wonder if the recommendations will ever be met as there is a lot of distance between saying and doing. If you base this committee with the same due process applied by the ownership regulatory body then it doesn't stand a chance in hell. I strongly believe that the top clubs will use their monies, accountants and legal teams to get around any mandate put forth by this new directive because they don't give a damn about the rest of the football clubs that are suffering inexhaustibly to survive, yet alone thrive. When the big foreign investors started buying up the English game I remember thinking at the time that there would be tears trickling down the pyramid, but at least some verbal commitment has been made and I suppose we have to see what, if any, benefit is derived from it's inception.
