Today Rotherham have been deducted 3 points and fined 30k for fielding an ineligible player http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32433528 Earlier in the season Blackpool committed a similar offence and were fined 30k with no points deduction http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29993867 Where's the logic in this? Surely same the penalty should apply to both teams? This puts Rotherham one point above the relegation zone but they have a game in hand over Millwall and Wigan.
I think its' probably because Rotherham won & gained three points when their illegible player was used. Blackpool lost & therefore didn't gain an advantage. Thats the only thing I can think of? I agree though, if the offence is the same, then the punishment should be as well.
Consistency is not a word in the Disciplinary Commission's dictionary. Although I can the logic in Whiffle's post. The appeal outcome will be interesting.
So Blackpool lost and the opposition got 3 points. Rotherham got deducted 3 points but their opposition didn't gain any points. The logic applied is equal for the perpetrators but not for the team they played. They should define punishment for breaches of the rules at the start of the season. If found guilty, apply the punishment consistently!
