So this is the conversation with the Outlaws at dinner. We somehow get onto the issue with the Muslims protesting at the school in Birmingham. This sends the Father in Law into overdrive about "the gays". He moves onto how "the gays" have taken over the radio on a Saturday and comes out with... "you can smell it through the radio!"
I met the old bird who lives next to me yesterday she said to my gf (who's mixed race) "theres a black man who lives the other side of you...hes alright though" It was but not
My old dear is a casual racist. For somebody who was born and raised in London I expect her to be culturally aware and sensitive to diversity, but she just ain't. When my old man was needing care, one of the nurses at the hospital was some Ugandan dude. My old dear was like 'I'm not sure about him, I've got nothing against coloured people, but you know, he's just one of those really shiny black people' ffs
My Nan used to call black folk darkies and Muslims pako’s. She was a nazi so I thought she was being quite nice really. She was horrified when she had a black great grandchild. She was a lovely woman god rest her soul.
Always remember a great uncle at a family bbq telling me that he 'wasn't racist as long as they don't move in next door or marry my daughter'
Yeah they are too long in the tooth to change. My old dear is from a proper South London working family. They have everything in common with the black nurses, Sikh tube train drivers, Pakistani corner shop owners and Muslim mini cab drivers. But there's always going to be that first generation immigrant thing with people of their age, when it was acceptable to call people Pakis and Wogs and not really mean it with any malice. I grew up in London with the sons and daughters of all of the people who came to live and work here. To me, it was just normal to have English mates who were black and Asian etc. I never really understood the fuss that the racists made about it all when I was a kid. I was like, yeah my mate Sadeep was born in Lewisham bruv, what the **** is your problem
My mother in law is a racist and she doesn’t even know it. I can’t even be bothered to educate her anymore as she has no influence on society and her mixed race grandkids just think nanna is a loveable joke. The Daily Mail is her bible.
So old people a racist? So ****, what right have we to impose this new worlds ever changing views on them?
A lot of that generation have similar views about gay people. To them it's just wrong, because that's what they were brought up to believe. But there are all the same funny contradictions at play. 'Ooh it's wrong them gays, but I do love a bit of Larry Grayson'
Yeah, that's what I mean. They were brought up to have those beliefs. The world changed around them and a lot of people just held onto their old beliefs, even though they look pretty outdated by today's standards.
I think what Luv talks about in the OP is nothing new. I find it worse that we expect the elderly to have to change their views all the time. Who can keep up with what you're allowed to say? One minute it's black is no good, next minute it's coloured is no good. ****s, homo's, transfucking gender, lgbt, gays.. Can you keep up? ****ed if i can.
It's a different world, ever evolving. Not sure what my old nan would have made of transgender men who identify as women, but who prefer to retain their cocks and call themselves Lesbians ....
Evolving, but not in a good way. Remember the story last year i told, about the **** getting my mate the sack for calling him a ****, even though he was calling my mate a fat lazy ****. Little ****ing *** is still working, and swanning around like Julian Clary.. Weak as ****, and annoying... Keeps trying to talk, but i just blank the ****.
