I would agree £60m +. Gareth Bale £80m+, Suarez £80M, you'd have to put Shearer in that class.

Read somewhere today that Barca have agreed a fee of £65M for Luey Scumbag. If Luey Scumbag is worth that Shearer at his peak would have to be in the region of £80M +

Good question... So many players from his era would be worth mega-bucks. It tends to be flashy players with pace that get those top end fees, so probably around £40 million. Would defo justify such a price more than Carroll, anyway!

£70m. Mandy went for £35m~ and Shearer was twice as good.

Well I can't agree, if you look at some of the prices we seem to let our classy players go for , then God only knows how much NUFC management would accept.
But in all seriousness a young Shearer has to be up there with Bsle and Suarez , no doubt

Considering Shearers record at Blackburn, and at Newcastle, in today's market he could well fetch over the magic 100 mil. As a striker he had everything. Superb shooting ability, powerful header of the ball, and too strong for many prem. defenders Yes, he could dish out the rough stuff, but he didn't go for all this diving and cheating nonsense that the prem is riddled with today.

Would love to have seen him in a United shirt, but fully respect him for playing for his local club.

Well he did go for a British record transfer fee when he left Saints for Blackburn. It's just that in those days, THAT was £3.5 m. Come to think of it, Blackburn bought 3 of our players in one go (bit like Liverpool this season <wah>)

Shearer's transfer to Newcastle at the time was a world record at £15 million, he would be more valuable than Bale so would in all odds command a fee above the £100 million threshold.

He'd be too expensive for Mike Ashley whatever the amount!

This he would offer £15M in todays market and Pardew would tell us that we tried hard but just couldn't get the deal over the line!!!!!

Choke on these words as I do, I don't think there's been a striker, as an out & out striker, as good as Shearer since, and I don't see one coming.

If you plonked him in front of Bale, Ronaldo & maybe Rodriguez in a Madrid shirt, he could probably look at 50 a season without changing his socks.

Gotta be by todays standards £80million.

You know, I had a chat with him in Harry's the other week, and he's a ****ing decent chap. This was an issue to me cos I always thought/decided he was a **** and now I have to go with the actual fact that he's decent.

    Meh.

50m-60m. Not been a striker as good since but they don't fetch what the Ronaldos, Messi, Bale, Rodriguez.

Closest I've seen is Falcao. How good could Colombia have been had he been fit?

I should have added an extra 20 mill. To the best of my knowledge, Shearer wasn't a racist, nor did he bite anyone, so he would (not counting injuries) be available for the full season

The problem for me is not how much he would cost, but who would buy him. He doesn't fit Barcelona's philosophy, isn't a Real Madrid type player, would be dynamite for Bayern but would probably prefer to hoover up Bundesliga talent or go for cheaper alternatives, not sure he would suit Mourinho, he turned down MUFC so would turn down Man City, would MUFC spend that much and put RVP and Rooney out of joint?, too British for PSG, Italians couldn't stump the cash.

Any team in world football would take a prime 25 yr old Shearer. Could play any style, and would suit any team. All round game and he still had pace at 25.

slightly tarnished view point Indestructable, but understandable from a Sunderland supporter. Truth is Shearer had a British talent that is sadly missing in today's game. As much as I admire Rooney, he doesn't have the class of Shearer. Pretty sure that in his prime Man United would have welcomed him with open arms, and paid the fee to get him.
