On the 20th of May, a few days after we'll all be celebrating our miraculous survival or looking forward to another season in the Championship, I shall be running the Lima marathon in aid of Latin Link, the charity I work with here in Peru. If you would like to sponsor me, and feel good, if not about QPR then about yourself! Then please visit: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/perurunningman Thanks guys and girls. Onwards and upwards, you Rsssssssssssssssssssssss
Good luck fella. I'm running a couple of 10k's this year but i could never dream of running a full marathon.
Best of luck Peruvian I have run five marathons in my time and appreciate the time and hard work that goes into the race.
Good luck Peruvian. I 'ran' the London in 2008 in a time that some may have been able to walk it in! Nevertheless raised some good amounts for my charities which was great. I have a deferred place for 2013 which I will do if I can shed the extra weight I'm carrying at present (too much comfort eating after QPR matches this year!) What temperature will you be running in? What time are you targetting?
You should have a chat with Judo....from what he tells me he actually ahs the privelledge of carrying the olympic torch on one of its sections....!! trying to get him to wear a rangerss pin badge or bobble hat or something... put a bit of pressure on him everyone and he may wear a rangers scarf!!! Come on Judo...I know you're watching.......!
Thanks for the support lads. In answer to Rangers questions I'm certainly more Jamie Mackie (all effort) than Adel (all skill) when it comes to my running. This will be my 3rd Lima marathon and the previous 2 have been in times of 5hr10 and 5hr5, so I'm hoping to go under 5hr. The main problem with Lima is not so much the heat in May but the humidity which is always above 90% even though it hardly ever rains! Temperature will be low 20s centigrade. Problem is because I live at altitude (7,500ft), whilst this is great for my fitness, my legs don't get used to running at a faster pace that I can run at in Lima because of the extra oxygen. So by mile 15 the legs are beginning to feel it even though fitness wise I feel great. This year I've tried to up my speed in training and put in a few more miles as well, so we'll see. I have a suspicion that if the Rs stay up I'll go under 5hrs easily!!!! Last did London in 2010 in 4hr50 and then did Belfast a week later in 4hr35 (my pb), so there is hope for the Hoops yet!
Well done. Not so ashamed to reveal my time now of 5:40. Have always hated people who pee in the street so could not bring myself to do that even on marathon day. Waited in queue for cold 10mins and when I came out it was hailing! made for a very slow last hour. I ran in my QPR shirt and got some jeers along the way but all good natured. Had 5 seconds of fame as I ran past Floella Benjamin who was being interviewed on Tower Bridge.
