I think that the close season blues are starting to get everyone down. The last few days on his forum have produced far too high a degree of infighting only alleviated by the odd sacrificial lamb from Arsenal, Norwich or Swansea wandering over for a “chat”. This infighting has reached a level where Matt, Bob and maybe others have been forced to comment. I have to say that I’m slightly miffed with them as I always thought that soul searching this forum was my job! ;)

This clearly leaves me with no alternative than to take the opposing view. Over the last month I have been around all of the major forums, posting on many of them. All of them had a link to “This World of R’s” and so many people posted such kind comments about my blog that my general insecurity demanded that I go an read them all. I have come to the conclusion that each of the forums serves a different purpose and suits a different type of poster. In my opinion this one is most fun (both for entertainment and stimulation) and has most breadth. The range and scope of topics is outstanding from some we can all join in, such as picking our favourite film or slagging off Joey Barton, to some which discuss political, historical or environmental matters that many of us unfortunately feel wary of venturing into but still enjoy reading. I have no doubt that if I started a thread on the Hadron Kaleidoscope and the Higgs boson particle there would be a good smattering of well informed comment. Personally I’m still waiting for the favourite cheese thread to start though.

What was also very apparent yesterday was the outstanding moral position some instantly took when James posted up an ill-advised joke. Our regular posters were not prepared to look away but called him to task over it, all The Hawkster had to do, in his official position as mod, was mop up the spillage and remove the evidence. If only our bankers regulated themselves in the same way.

So I don’t think the forum is going to pot, we are just in the unusual position of not having enough to complain about. This time last year we were all busy mounting “Goons out” campaigns, this year we are concerned that England’s second choice goalkeeper isn’t good enough for us. We are all so used to suffering that in these days of relative calm we are starting to fight amongst ourselves. A simple analogy would be that everything is going well on the pitch so we will have conflict in the boardroom. Does this remind you of anyone or anything? Maybe an organisation with a well honed propensity for self destruction? Yes, the our forum on Not606 is very much in the image of our beloved Q.P.R.

Thanks for putting things in perspective Roller, excellent post as usual. The range of topic and strength of feeling is one of the things that keeps me coming back here. I have thought about restricting my comments to football, or even just Rs matters, but quickly forget as something arresting comes up. I've posted stuff I've regretted very quickly, but decided to leave them unedited as they represent a point in a dialogue, usually. I have a view on nearly everything ( often based on ignorance) and so do others, and even when we disagree they have just as strong a right as me to express themselves. The fact that they are obviously wrong is their problem, not mine....and as you say, when someone steps way out of line, we are pretty united in making our collective view known.
But I ****ing HATE the close season.
There's a Welsh cheese with mustard in it, called I think, Yvenny, which I could get in London but have struggled to find in Warwickshire. Very tasty.

You've hit the nail on the head there Roller. It poses an interesting question for the human psyche too. When we don't have a common enemy, do we turn inwards and self destruct?

Maybe the homosapien has a genetic need for a nemesis. A Bogeyman of sorts, to stay somewhat sane?

No the forum isn't going to pot. It's that time of the year with no football to talk about, posters look for other topics to discuss. The majority of which are good humoured and amusing, some are so off the wall they're brilliant. However, some that are ill advised and abusive.
I believe though, no one sets out with the intention of offending anyone. As some debates get a little heated, then the odd regrettable reply may be posted with too much haste.
I adopt the philosophy that if I don't like a thread or post, I simply ignore it, certainly no sleep is lost.

If you want something to complain about, let me see, there's Rob Hulse earning more a year for doing sod all than I'll earn in the rest of my working life. Joey Barton still may pull a hooped shirt again. Leeds fans still believe they're the top side in England. I could go on but I'll be here all night!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, we have the best mix of posters on here that I've encountered on any forum, football or otherwise. This is like a family and all families have disagreements and fallouts from time to time, the bottom-line is you can leave at any time if you don't like it, not many do. A forum is a place for discussion and opinions, and whilst I might not agree with some I fully support anyone's right to post, the Mods are excellent in only stepping in as a last resort...

Cheers Roller for keeping the sanity, great post.

Can't remember who so brilliantly qouted Eagles some time ago, but it fits like a glove about this forum.

If this forum is in the image of QPR, then let's have some fun..............

What people at the club would you compare to our members.

Lets start the ball rolling (excuse the pun Roller)

I reckon SWORDS would be our Barton. Any ideas.

Great post Roller, I was mistakenly accused of Trolling today and not being totally ofay with the term but had a little Idea I thought I would look it up anyway and came across this article of 18 types of Trollers.

I think the link below kind of compliments your post or at least I would like to think so; reading through the different types of trollers you can't help yourself imagining that they compare to the various types invading our board and I found this very funny.
