It annoys me how programmes like 'In Sickness And In Health' are no longer shown because some ethnic minorities MAY be offended. Programmes like that are a historical marker for a time in our past and should be viewed as such. If people MAY get offended then put a disclaimer on beforehand inviting people to tune out. It's probably the same for 'It Aint Half Hot Mum' too. It boils my piss that our government persist in trying to over sanitize our past for the sake of one or two individuals... and what they MAY think. Maybe we should go the whole hog and burn all the nasty text books too?
Watch Curry and Chips and tell me what you think. People should because it shows how far we have come. Only Spike Milligan could have played the Irish Pakistani Kevin O'Grady.
I dunno. They show repeats of Rising Damp on one of the Freeview channels and that's full of racist comments and stereotypes. The problem with programmes like In Sickness and In Health is that Alf Garnett became a hero to the ignorant. They couldn't see him for the racist, bigoted parody he was. Interesting side note: William G Stewart of 15 to 1 fame was a producer and director on Love They Neighbour (or as Bill Bryson called it when he arrived in England, My Neighbour's a Darkie).
