Bloody brilliant he was on Sunday, he's made a massive difference and has made us look like a proper team again. I wasn't 100% convinced by him to start with, but he has got better and better and definitely looks the part. Great signing he was, top fella
Looks the real player now,and I think he complements BJ in midfield. Both are playing well at the moment and have contributed to our recent upturn in performance.
I have been saying since the first few games last season that Tettey will prove to be one of our best signings for many years. He has the stamina and positional sense to perform the DM role on his own - Johnson always needs help. Losing the shackles of the ' sitting role ' and given this extra freedom Johnson is twice the player he is if Tettey is missing. However Tettey found the energy to support Hooper when he broke away near the end on Sunday I will never know - what a team player!!
It's funny, and this is just my perception, but I've actually always thought Tettey's positional sense isn't that good - not in the sense that he doesn't know where to go, but more that he likes to roam the centre of the field, which can leave gaps because he is not quite so disciplined. It also helps us in the centre because his movement creates space. The difference is that Tettey is quick enough and good enough at reading the game to recognise when he needs to leg it so that he can cover the gaps! As you say - he spotted Hooper needed support. Positional sense is Johnson's strength, which (when he's playing well) makes up for his lack of mobility. And if he can keep up his 82% pass completion (or preferably more) that will cover his poorer movement!
Tettey also seems to know the best times to go and support the attack. He'll spend a lot of time around that half way line, looking to recycle the ball, but if space opens up he'll surge into it. It's great to have those extra runners coming from midfield to support the attack and Tettey does it really well!
