You guys might if you get a new mega-rich owner and a new manager.

I think it's only a matter of time before the top 4 spots are permanently filled by mega-rich clubs who can throw around £20-40million on players on a regular basis.

I fear not. The gulf between the Manchesters and Chelsea's of this world and our club is too great. Iy would take a massive cash investment on the team and a top notch manager to achieve this. 

Anything can happen, remember in 2001 when Ipswich finished 5th and missed out on the CL on the last day of the season. They only bought 1 player that year which was Hreiðarsson for a club record 4m. I honestly thought during the Reid era we were going to be there by now..... how wrong was I.

I'd love to think so but honestly...No
Unfortunately the Champions league is set up to keep the same teams turning up year after year.

Syd would love to see it, 33 now and reckon there will be a big success at some point, even an FA cup would do me, CL might be pushing it like! Chappaz we have a mega rich owner but maybe not the absolutely top class management or gung ho investment a la Pompey, Leeds, Newcastle etc of the past. . . Shouldn't make a difference soon anyway with the financial fair play rules. The rich will get richer and the poor stay poor as I understand it. Guess our teams will be in the middle somewhere in Premier League terms, what do you reckon?

I'm hoping that I may see it by the end of my life time, so with the best medical advances possibly about 100... Then again, that might be a bit too soon...

With the fair play rules, no we will never make it, unless we decide we dont want it for 3 years, or 2 years with spending very little, then spend big in the 3rd year.

We could spend 300 milion this year, but be buggered for european competition, but we could still win the League 3 years running, then in the 4th year, we would enter the CL. (but who is going to come, every player wants CL now)

Or spend 0 for the next 2, have a turnover of +40 million a season (which we dont get btw) then spend 80 million in the 3rd season, top 4 then the CL

To get the high turnover though, you have to get in the CL, but to get in the CL, you need a high turnover, its a catch 22 situation, screwed if you do and screwed if you dont.

We just need to find a mega rich company (linked to Mr Short) to pay a highly inflated fee for naming rites at the SOL to balance the books.

Don't see why not and I am 52.

Maybe when we have a boss (and I am a BiB) that Short thinks he can trust with his billions, he will splash out on those players.

The Europa would do me 1st.

I'm 50 next year, so there's still time, but I wish they'd get a move on.

The money thing is tough, but all we really need is a Brian Clough.

Short cant just splash out bilions though, not even millions realy. Short can only put cash into the club if its a donation, as donations dont count, if its a loan of any sort, interest free or otherwise (and what owner has ever made a donation? none that i can recall) it counts in the fair play rules, so its a bad thing to get a loan off your owner now, especially if your turnover doesnt cover it.

This is what i have been trying to say, Short not giving Bruce ny cash, has **** all to do with him not liking Bruce, its the fact he cant, as our turnover is ****.

That's what I thought Blackcatsteve, so if we spend more cash then we need to hope for a pretty sudden increase in turnover, which seems unlikely, otherwise qualifying for europe is a waste of time, is that right?

To get to Europe we need to splash the cash, however to splash the cash we need to get to Europe. The only slim chance we have of Europe without the cash splashing is via the cups we are out of one due to "taking it seriously". To get the fans back into the SOL we have to improve 10 fold on the pitch it's a give and take thing from both sides.
