In Dublin

    Trying to get a Visa from the Indian embassy as I'm off to Chennai next week with work. Went in to the Indian consulate in Belfast with my Irish passport, said they couldn't help me unless I was British, needed to go Dublin - about 40% of Belfast have Irish passports <grr>

    Phoned the Indian embassy in London as I'm flying through London on Monday and asked them could they give me a Visa, said I was technically a UK citizen, just held an Irish passport. They asked me had I lived in the UK for over 2 years, no... go to Dublin to get a visa <grr>

    So got the train to Dublin last night, and met up with an old pal and his missus. Got lashed and stumbled into the Indian Embassy this morning at 9.30. They asked me where I lived, I said Belfast. They said you should go to the Indian Consulate in Belfast as I needed an address in the Republic of Ireland <grr>

    So I argued with the Indian guy that I was in national no man's land, being an Irish passport holder from the UK who has lived abroad for 5 years. Finally got him to agree to issue me a visa anyway... for €285! 285 ****ing euro for a Visa to India.

    Anyway not a very interesting story, I've to go back to the embassy at 4pm to pick up my Visa and I'm trying to waste time in an internet cafe.

    Anyone ever flew Emirates before? I'm wondering do they have internet connection as they managed to put me in the air on Helicopter Sunday <grr>

    I didnt read it all but it serves you right for going out of your way to get an Irish passport when you could of had a British one so much easier

    I have an Irish passport. Looks so much better than the failtastic british one. Plus if I were to be abducted in the far east there is a god chance the Irish passport could save my ass

    Didn't go out of my way. The Irish passport application forms are right next to the British ones in the Post Office. Going out of my ****ing way to get an Indian visa.

    All that tax dodging has to have some downside, doesn't it?

    Is the situation in Northern Ireland unique or are there other countries where you can choose your passport, too?

    Only been to Dublin once, had a great time though.

    Been to Belfast too, although never left the airport cos we were en-route to Amsterdam. Still had a good time though. <laugh>

    My brother is in Madras for 10 days. He hates India but they've put him in a luxury hotel this time so I think he'll get by.
