Hi everyone, I'm a long time guest/member but this is my first post, just wanted my say on this Barton incident.

As far as I can see JB's done very little wrong here and is being castigated by our friends the 'journalists'.

Song stamps on him and gets away with it, remains to be seen if he gets a retrospective ban, I'd expect not given its a London club.

Gervinho dives (some have said he didn't in the incident in question) but he's defiinitely looking for it, throws himself to the ground after the faintest of touches (if any). Wasn't the only time he dived in the match either. Sagna's dive on Jonas' tackle was also disgraceful but seems to be being overlooked. Went down in stages 5 mins after.

Then Barton, angry from Song and Gervinho's diving takes offence (everyone castigates diving in the media), pulls him up off the ground (no different to Ferdinand and Cahill a couple of yrs ago and I don't remember Rio coming in for anything after the game), grapple ensues, Gervinho slaps Barton.

Only 'bad thing' Barton does is play act and play up the slap/punch. Thing is I don't believe he'd have done that if you could trust refs to send of players for violent conduct without going to ground. If you stay on your feet and make little of it its just a yellow. Case in point, Chimbonda slapped Butt at HT at WHL in the 3-2 win few seasons ago. Butt made nothing of it, only a yellow for Chimbonda.

This play acting isn't a player problem, its a referee problem. This point seems to be overlooked by the media.

As a side note, quite glad we didn't sign Gervinho. He showed yesterday that he dives, is petulant and lacks end product. Definitely note worth cutting any penis' off for.

You are as wrong as Barton was.

Blaming the ref - I suppose it was him who took a dive, stamped on a player and slapped another.

    Desperate fail.

The same could be said for most, if not all things in life.

I don't condone the play acting, and never in the post do I say that I do. It just seems to me you have to go down and feign injury for the ref to actually apply the law properly as per the example I gave.

What about, "cut off your penis or we'll cut off your balls"?

Hopefully I'll never be in a situation where I have to make that choice! <yikes>

Today's football is certainly corrupt on many levels. But to join in with what is wrong with it is just being part of the problem. In he end he was wrong (and others were too), no point in defending it as you have in your first post (JB's done very little wrong here .....) apart from the title of your article.

Whoever the player is at fault, we all need to acknowledge it or football will continue its free-fall to sports Eastenders.

WELCOME good first post. i'd agree with most of that, i dont think you were blaming the ref just saying JB made it obvious what happened to draw the ref's attention as i probably would have gone un-noticed and typically gervinho (who looked dangerous) would have gone on to score.

I agree that it would be nice to rise above it and not join in. The point is though if an opponent does something described as 'violent conduct', the team whose player was 'attacked' (and I use that lightly because it's never punches thrown) don't receive the advantage i.e. red card and 11 v 10 unless said player goes down and play acts a bit.

Would that mean its ok for a player to go down in the box with the slightest touch so it doesn't go unnoticed by the ref. I also think its a bit ironic that Barton was furious about a dive and then dived himself.

Too many players dive and cheat.
Its just the way football is now - might be cynical but if they can get one over the ref they will.

Our players do it, dont think they dont.

Barton shouldn't have got involved, but once he did, yellow card was probably right decision.

Anyway, Barton is on 5 Live tonight at 6.00 ish, must have decided he is'nt being heard enough on twitter.

Nice post and welcome. But don't care at all about what happened either way. It's done, it's over, not gunna change. Feels like everyone has awaited the new season in so much anticipation that the first game to be shown on tv of the new season gets all this stupid hype and stupid arguements amongst everyone.

How about everyone stops being so pathetic and leave it, 37 more games to discuss

If that's on at 6 would you mind posting what he says? I won't get a chance to hear it.
