I'm prepared to be shot down in flames, but I actually believe he will come good. He will always be remembered for that howler against the USA. The way the defence played in front of him on Saturday who'd want to be a QPR goalie? I believe the Green shoots of recovery will not be long in coming, let's get behind the lad and judge him and the team after 10 games not 1. We were totally off the pace on Saturday and need to get back to the team that harried and hustled teams at the end of last season, whoever we're playing. Swansea was a massive wake up call, it looked like we thought we could just swan our way through the game and pick up a result as if we were playing some lower league team. But things will improve, we have a better squad than this time last year, they just need to start playing like it and treating every team with the respect they deserve. Come on you Rsssssssssssss, onwards and upwards.
Only a Sword could repeat the same line in reply to anything I post...the old or is it odd ones are the best!
Im optimistic person and im certain that Green will show you much better goalkeeping in the near future. The defence did not helped him a bit and green was only fault for their first goal.
Problem for keepers is that a mistake is usually a costly goal, as Saturday's was. Hopefully, he'll come back stronger with something to prove. He had an excellent season for the Hammers so it's in there somewhere. By the same token Taraabt played a number of stinkers last season. On Saturday he was responsible for one of the breakaway goals playing a stupid pass with our midfield stretched, he hasn't had any of the stick Green had because he's still in credit with many on here from his Championship season, but this comparison just highlights the way goalies are sometimes on a hiding to nothing...
Greens mistake on Saturday was awful but look at the game last night. Cech who is a superb keeper made an even worse mistake and the Reading keeper also made an awful howler. Neither of these are making any headlines today anywhere.
Cech has been on the way down for a couple of years now. In his prime he never used to make the errors he now does. As for Green he's been a liability for years. If he was anything else we wouldn't have got him on a free.
Some of the comments are unbelieveably harsh, he is a good keeper, otherwise he would not be an international player. Give the lad a break.....support him as he is the best keeper we have had for a good few years (excluding paddy's championship season)....he will play a blinder against Norwich, one of his former clubs.
We got him on a free because he let his contract run down. West Ham offered him another long term contract, he just wanted to move. He is still one of the top three keepers in England. Keepers are always remembered for their mistakes. It's a horrible position to play in. Can't believe that I have seen some on here already calling for Paddy to come back when he made mistake after mistake after mistake last year. IMO Green deserves a chance and should be judged after 10 games and not 1. If we were to judge the rest of our players the same way then Mackie should also be got rid of for missing a sitter from 4 yards and cisse and adel should also never play for us again because they were so poor on Sat. Give the man a decent chance.
I must have seen Green play at least 10 times on the TV. Not once in those 10 games has he looked Ok - he always looked nervous and made all kinds of mistakes. Perhaps it's just coincidence, but hard to believe!
I think he might need the rest of the team to give him a buffer for a while (I we need good performances in front of him). The problem is that defences perform better knowing that there's a decent/confident keeper behind them. I think we need to scrape and battle our way to a couple of wins and then the whole team will have some belief to work with (the cliche of confidence breeding confidence). Perhaps send them all out team bonding before all the new defenders and goalies arrive - the costs will be too much then...
Good post by Nutso, but you're right Oslo, Green is nervy - but the Hammers fans rated him - I don't recall a clamour for him to leave Upton Park. Once he settles down, we'll get the best from him. MH looking for another keeper now is part insurance (pre closure of the transfer window) and part incentive for Green.
I had the misfortune of being on a train with a load of Hammers supporters on Saturday evening. They were delighted but not surprised that RG had screwed up. Given how critical an on form keeper is to a club's season it is a worry I have to say. But equally we are now committed to him for the time being at least so we need to get behind him. I just wish he had shown any signs of dominating his area...
West Ham fans spoke very highly of him, obviously error prone but so are many keepers, he happened to make one for England (which always seems to affect a players reputation as it did with Carson) focus on the fact that he is still in the England squad and that nobody disagreed with his choice
Quite right Sooper. Taraabt could not play another decent game for three years yet some people would still be singing his praises because of one good season he had in a Mickey Mouse league. Hopefully Green comes good.
Give him a break, if he's our no 1 keeper then and lets get behind him and give him the support...I was at the opening training session on Monday and couldn't believe the stick he got. There was one bloke behind me who was having a right go, as soon as he touched the ball he came out with 'Don't give him the ball he'll only drop it' to stuff like 'Your'e F***ing useless...Loads of people round me were just looking at this bloke. To be fair Green just ignored it and got on with the training and looked quite composed...
