I'm very suprised that Berni has not learned his lesson from the last time F1 went Pay- per-view with its own digital channel! Look how successful that was!! Im not saying Sky sports will go the same way due to the other sports it shows and the mugs who accept and pay for that crap, but surely he would realise people wont pay for f1!!! As long as i can watch it someother way i will never subscribe to Sky! If Sky were that genuine they could put it on sky 1 if they wanted therefore remaining free to air, that would be the perfect comprimise! but they wont.
This is good to hear Benny. Well done for having the resolve to avoid Sky at all costs! It is a shame that there are some who are already capitulating and appear to be trying to get others to support the idea! Fortunately this appears to be a small minority. Of course, the fact is that if its audience is too small, Murdoch and his dastardly plans will ultimately fail. Therefore we must make a very firm commitment NOW! It really is a good thing that so many people are reacting so strongly.
Benny, for sure I'm not going to pay Turdoch to watch F1, I love F1 but simply will not pay to watch, other than attending actual races, there are a hell of a lot of folk out there who share the same sentiment, this country needs a bloody good shake up, all these greedy little bastards taking back handers including the prime minister the slimey little **** and the police are the absolute worst examples.
Cosicave I'm sure you could use a laugh. I got a message from Nigel Farage's lot regarding the BBC/sky deal. Tongue and cheek to be safe I would recommend... Dear Mr******* * Thank you for writing to Nigel Farage about the BBC's abandonment, to pay-TV, of coverage of Formula-One motor-racing, which appears to be part of the EU's initiative to get rid of state-broadcasters, along with everything else pertaining to the nation-state, so that it can reign supreme over (or in cahoots with) a claque of dependent media. * Poor old Beeb! How it strives to suck up to the EU - and yet Brussels is constantly forcing HMG to curtail its funding of the BBC as "unjustified state-aid"! * However, the BBC's EU-sycophancy goes deeper than mere dependence on EU-goodwill (and conditional grants and loans from the EU as well, in fact) There is a convinced political correctness (please see attachment) among staff at the BBC. Judicious, selective appointments have seen to that, in the last few decades; and motor-racing is not exactly "comme il faut" among such people, who have carbon-footprints on the brain and wish us all to be obligatory passengers on public transport (fully EU-privatised, naturally) * The BBC's abandoning F1 is therefore part of a pattern and a process, which is intended to continue until we attain the EU's global Utopia (dystopia, more like) in which citizen-units (no longer individuals) do as they are told by bureaucrats from Pole to Pole. * As a member of the EU's so-called "parliament", Mr Farage knows very well how the EU creates an appearance of democracy, while carefully expunging all traces of it from decision-making. His media-activities are his only real opportunity to exert influence, and that influence is bent entirely towards the only possible solution to the pattern and process I have mentioned, namely, the ejection of the EU from Britain and the EU's eventual abolition. * We shall not again have proper, democratically-controlled public services, run for public benefit, until this solution is applied. When it is, we should see F1 back on a reconstituted BBC, which honours its charter (political neutrality) and gives the public what it wants and needs. * Yours sincerely * Andrew S. Reed * Office of Nigel Farage, Brussels www.ukip.org*** www.ukipmeps.org**** www.express.co.uk
Cameron: I thought you were planning to support Murdoch? - The more people who give in so easily, the less likely it will fail quickly. Surely you can see this? If you are as passionate as I think you are about F1, perhaps you should consider the long-term future of the sport and be prepared to show some solidarity now, while it may make a difference!
Cosi: Is there nothing short of full scale revolution, that we can do to turn around "our" country, the terrorist threat is nothing compared to what is happening to the infrastructure and culture of England, do we actually need to be part of Europe, we do seem to have managed very well for a very long time without them.
Thanks Silver. I'm always up for a laugh but in all honesty this isn't a laughing matter. The sentiments expressed in your quote are essentially reasonable. We need to see this capitulation of the BBC (an agency of our elected government) as a further sign of this country selling out to the highest bidder, with no regard for its electorate. It is an absolute disgrace that the British public are once again being cast aside in deference to the powerful - particularly those in the media who suck up to a despotic infiltrator such as Murdoch, who already appears to own the UK and has not the slightest interest in the public, save that of the capacity to exploit it.
The things thats annoying me the most is, they promise not to have ad breaks during the race, they promise the best ever coverage, well thats great but we already have that NOW!!!!! why would i pay for that!!! From that subscription fee i could attend a couple of races!! hmmmmm which would i prefer! Like you say Cosicave we need to make a stand now!! and refuse to pay. How nieve to think people are actually going to watch their coverage when the races are screened on the BBC! Another annoying thing, is the BBC not only not showing the whole race but only highlights and we have to wait till 6pm!! I dont know about anyone else but i cant stand finding out the result before i have seen it, having to wait till 6pm is going to be impossible! ANOTHER thing is Jake Humphrey, the way he has dealt with it. Now I really like Jake, he has done an amazing job for the BBC and hope he stays! But he keeps saying theres more important things in the world (which of course there is), its staying on the BBC etc but thats irrelevant, we still have to fork out extortinate money we dont have to watch something we love! I just hope he hasnt sold out as he doesnt seem to bothered trying to downplay the effects or he just doesnt care! Unlike Brundle who has been more than vocal at expressing his opinions which i admire hugely! Of all of them hes the one i want to stick around, and maybe Eddie! : )
I wish I knew the answer Ernie. All I can say is that it is vital that the fewest possible people capitulate to Murdoch. I don't really want to get into an extended political discussion, since it is not within my expertise, but I'd be very happy to learn the wisdom of others with regard to our country's abandonment of its population. The revolution suggestion would be gaining momentum already, had not the public been so immersed in the propagandised party-line that 'we are not a nation of revolutionists' and that when things do not appear to be going our way, we 'lie back and think of England' whilst getting shafted by those who laugh with each other at our expense along the corridors of power. Any thought of revolution in this country quickly loses breath because the population have been conditioned to expect their voices to be lost in the crowd of those who give in too easily and undermine the rest of us…
I will be watching F1 next year. I have decided. Sorry if you don't agree with me. I hate Murdoch as much as you and am angry I am having to fork out extra money but let's not get into a public fist fight.
I know! You have already said you intend to line Murdoch's pocket. As I've said before, it is a matter for you and you have every right to pay through the nose for it if you want to. In this case, you might as well stop complaining because it's no good whinging about something but still going along with it! Of course, Murdoch is counting on people such as yourself whom he must believe will make his gamble pay dividends - since with the support of similarly minded folk, he will eventually hold a monopoly over not just the viewers of the UK but F1 itself! It's your decision but perhaps you should stop complaining? It makes you appear to be a hypocrite. Just pay up and watch it. Then you can tell F1 fans all about it… P.S. I see that you mention a public fist fight: Don't worry, it was not my intention to make you feel like that! [I have now edited an incorrect reference to a recent signature change, which was not Cameron but someone else, whom I became temporarily confused with. My thanks to Cameron for mentioning my error, to whom I offer a sincere apology; now referenced in a subsequent post within this thread.]
OK, If that is your opinion I respect that, but my banner looking like a hypocrite?? What is that about, I don't know what your talking about.
A bee in my bonnet whispers in my ear: "We do need to persist in putting pressure on the BBC and all those associated with F1 but we need to be patient too. This announcement was timed to minimise the effect of any hostile reaction because of the summer break/recess. It will be important to redouble efforts from the end of this month. 'They' are banking on us all having calmed down and resigned ourselves to the inevitable by then."
My deepest apologies to Cameron whom I have confused with someone else and will edit my above post accordingly. It was someone else's signature which - to put it politely - told Murdoch what he could do, whilst at the same time stating an intention to get Sky. Cameron: I'm deeply sorry and ask that you forgive my horrendous error. - Will fix it immediatelyâ¦
The surest way to screw Sky over is to subscribe to a rival cable company, and to go to the pub religiously for televised events that you can't not watch. I'm struggling to imagine myself watching 10 grands prix a season at somewhere like Walkabout, but needs must.
