Back in the early 90's mate - well known that he chatted up a lass in a restaurant who said he'd have to ask her Dad - and her dad was delighted that Gascoigne was interested in his 15 year old daughter! Different times but it was still illegal - just never went to court and he was never arrested. He was around 24 or 25 I think
Was well known up here mate - was in the papers back then but there's little or no archive of it - but I remember it very well (guessing 83 does too) was never played out like the AJ one as he was never reported by her or her family (not condoning AJ by any stretch by the way!)
Seems it's a story that has substance, however, until he's tried and proven guilty then he's innocent. That's the rule you all applied to Adam Johnson so he's got to have the same rule applied to him. Even though he's a total egg and couldn't afford 4 Kestrel Super never mind Orlando Pownell, rules are rules.

Well where's the quotes and the story? He's one of the biggest names in English football history, surely there's something? You're right it's a different kettle of fish, that answers your own question, one is a soon to be convicted child-groomer and official sex offender and the other had a story written about him 20 odd years ago that didn't lead to an investigation. Until they're both the same by law, I'll continue to treat Gascoigne as a ****ing drunken idiot and a laughing stock of a human being, and AJ as a nonce.

Well maybe you're right about this phantom story, but until he's a convicted kiddie fiddler it's going to be hard to justify your fans cheering on AJ whilst innocent and wanting a different outcome from different fans with a different player.
I'll just add that I'm speaking on behalf of myself here, I can honestly put my hand on my heart and say I never once cheered him, or clapped his name.
what's wrong with sunderland supporters cheering on AJ before he admitted an offence? as far as any of us knew for sure he could have been exonerated. how would we have looked for not backing our own player? why would the club continue to employ a man who was guilty? is it worse than all the opposition supporters chanting *****phile at him before the trial had even started or his admission of guilt (not to *****philia mind but the hairs have already been split over this one)? quite frankly i take a dimmer view of the opposition fans singing *****phile songs at live broadcast games than i do sunderland fans who cheered important goals. it's not like they were cheering AJs penchant for young girls.
