My dear fellow posters and Ipswich supporters, I must confess now that after supporting Town since 1973, tomorrow will be the first time when I hope that we lose! I am really sorry that it has come to this and I am in complete turmoil but if a loss tomorrow ensures that Paul Jewell is finally removed as Town manager then so be it! It is not just the poor start to this season but the fact that we have gone backwards ever since Magilton was fired 4 long years ago. Paul Jewell sadly does not have a clue on how to arrest our long term decline and although others who lurk in the shadows must take their share of the blame for this mess, Paul Jewell is the figurehead and the one that works with and trains the players every week. His job is to win us football matches and to make the correct tactical decisions every game to give us the best possible chance of achieving this. You have to look at the bigger picture sometimes and for those who say that this is an over reaction to the poor start of the season I just say look at the past 4 years! The same mistakes are being repeated season after season and we look nowhere near like challenging and look more like being relegated. I genuinely feel sorry for all those who have invested their hard earned money in season tickets this season having to sit through this crap every other week. I gave mine up at the end of last season after 25 years. You can all accuse me of being disloyal for wanting us to lose tomorrow but I just wanted to explain the simple reason why! We all deserve better after years of dross and the sooner the owner wakes up and takes action the better! Failure to act now I believe will result in continual decline of the football club for many years to come!
If it were the last game of the season & ipswich were 25 points adrift at the bottom of the table & the chairman stated that if we lost Jewell would be fired & if we won, he would be given a new contract, i still would want Ipswich to win. Any "fans" who want Ipswich to lose any game are welcome IMO to go & support Norwich or Colchester
You say your looking at the bigger picture but your not, your looking at the obvious picture. I think we all know Paul Jewells time will be up in the near future unless a miracle happens but the bigger picture is one of being unable or unwilling to compete financially. For years now it has been claimed that the likes of Shaun Derry (under Keane so dont accuse me of trying to stick up for Jewell) have been at the club for talks yet we wouldnt pay the going rate of wages. He is one of a long list of supposed targets that we have missed out on and the latest being Boyd. Jewell may not be up to the job but I think your big picture is actually a very small one.
TB - The big reason why Evans isn't giving Jewell any cash is that he does not trust him with any more. Evans is waiting until Jewell's contract expires! What I say is why wait for that day to arrive? If he no longer has faith in Jewell and I see no evidence that he has then why not just get rid now so that we have time to claw our way back! Why wait until the end of January when we could be in real trouble?
I dont think he has ever given him the same backing as he gave Keane & Jim. If you believe reports he has given him 1.75m to spend on Taylor this season and last summer he spent £2.5m on Chopra & JET (so not a massive deduction). Admittedly he may have spent a few more quid on wages last summer. Compare that to the previous regimes and I think you will find it is pocket change. What other cash of significant amounts has he spent? Unless your suggesting the 100k on Drury was us opening our wallets? A couple of years back 99% of our signings were from premiership clubs. Now its the likes of Macclesfield, Luton, Peterborough and Watford reserves. I would call that a massive turn around in backing
I never want to see us lose, but fair play JWM for your attempts at justifying your reasons in a civilized manner. I have to side with Tractor Bhoy on this though and although the here and now is blindingly obvious what is going to happen is less so, you may covet McCarthy - personally i do not, which is another thing we can chalk up on a list of differences of opinion
I agree with you on most things jonny but I have never and will never hope that Town will lose a match. I know you are a long serving, dedicated supporter of ITFC but I just cant go with you on this one.
Just to add a balance to my side of the argument in the 2009/10 season our signings were Delaney (700k) Martin (1.7m) Healy (nominal) Priskin (1.7m) Leadbitter & Edwards (joint 3.5m) along with free signing ALB, O connor & Troy Brown or put another way we spent almost double on transfer fees in that 1 season than we have under the whole of the Jewell reign.
warky, in all honesty, this must be a wind up. i truly refuse to believe that you would want another team to win. i think you've made a stand on here - we all know that - but that you will be cheering for the boys in blue on saturday 3pm. if not, how long does this go on for? what if you lose the next five and he remains in charge? then you really will be ****ed! as it stands, there are clubs in far, far worse situations than your own whose fans would never dream of wanting anything other than them to win football matches. your club is in a long run of mediocrity but that is no excuse for wanting to see them lose. by all means stop going, as indeed you have, but i think you are lying when you say you genuinely want them to lose. i've never met a football fan who would say that.
What if it were our 6 finger'd friends we were playing against tomorrow... still would want us to lose?
Wash your mouth out Stretchy! Look I know its wrong but I am so pissed off with all things ITFC at the moment! This garbarge surely can't be allowed to continue and I fear that if we scrape a win tomorrow then Jewell will be allowed to limp on for yet another week! There has to be a long term plan not just scraping the odd win so that Jewell can carry on!
Don't worry JWM, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I know it's not soon enough for you but Jewell will gone at the end of November when he fails to meet the target set for him (a rumour which I sincerely hope is true)
I have to say it seems PJ is pretty much going to get the sack soon, it feels like how it did under Jim again but then again I think we felt this before that Burnley game and PJ pulled it out of the bag to continue until now so you never know. I have to say I can sympathise with you JWM on this, I remember being dissapointed that Keane kept getting wins when it looked like he was going to get the sack, the Leicester game particularly sticks in my mind (the one in the snow), i was pretty grumpy after that win. I see you think if we keep Jewell that the club will continue to go backwards, so for us to remove him in your eyes would be a good thing, I understand that!! I am ashamed I thought like that but I couldn't help think like that, I thought Keane was so poisening our club and he had to go soon and if that meant us loosing so he couldn't cause anymore damage then so be it!! For me there are some positives from Jewells reign and the club are moving in a better direction than we were but if he cannot stop the ridiculous conceding of goals and thrashings (as much as they are happening) he should go!! I do feel sorry for him though, he's come in at a very tough time and often things have transpired against him!! I am also not a big advocate of Mick McCarthy not to the extent of Keane more how I wasn't that happy when Royle was appointed (If he comes he can convince me!!) I just don't think he would suit the club!!!
I've said it before Warky, but I reckon Karl Robinson at MK Wombles would be a great fit for Ipswich. Young, hungry, ambitious manager reminds me of a certain Mr Paul Lambert. In fact, he was my second choice for City after Chris Hughton when PL left us
