Bruce and Quinn have both said we need to bring in lots of players to make sure our squad is strong so we dont get caught short with injuries again.

The rules say we can only have a squad of 25.

Dont get it, if we buy extra strikers to cover injuries wont that mean we have less in say midfield? We buy extra defenders so we have less strikers, get what I'm trying to say?

So, IMO, its not more players we need, we can only have 25, its fitter players and better training.

Or am I really just stupid, be kind please.

Your'e right, we can only have 25, I agree the training should be looked at as that must have a bearing on the injuries suffered, how many players are out with torn hamstrings for instance, how is a hamstring torn, so we need 25 quality fit players, it's just the leagues way of making sure that the top teams remain top as they can attract the better players who will be happy to wait for their chance at a top 4 club, as opposed to coming to somewhere like Sunderland & being told to play second fiddle to someone who is not as good as them

and thats my point, Quinn said,"We must give Steve a chance and make sure he is not left short again", but we can only have 25 so its not buying more we need, its getting less injury. If we had kept Bent, or replaced him, we would still have 1 fit striker, better than none maybe but still short.

we need 25 fit and good players, as we have seen to our cost, our's just doesn't have quality in depth,

once we lost some of the so called better players, the weakness of the squad was there for everyone to see.

that's why when we are linked to the likes of bothroyd and fuller, we shouldn't dismiss them straight off, maybe they wouldn't be first choice, but would give added depth to the squad

Hey guys, First time on here but been reading for a while now. Dont forget thet the 25 only applies to players over 21 (i believe) at the start of the season so people like Henderson, Meyler? and Campbell for example would not need to be included in that first 25. You can supplement the squad with as many players under 21 that you like. I believe these are the rules but feel free to correct me if i am wrong.

and thats what many are missing mate, we wont get top players coming to sit on the bench but players like Boothroyd may come and fight for a starting place. What we would have given for either of those over the past few weeks.

25 players aged over 21. The likes of Henderson did not count towards the 25 man quota this season.

Ok here are the squad rules.

    1) All Premier League clubs must submit a squad of up to 25 players, by 5pm on Wednesday, September 1.

    2) Each 25-man squad must include at least eight 'home-grown' players.

    3) The 'home-grown' players do not have to be English. According to the Premier League: "A home grown player is defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Welsh Football Association for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21)." In practice this means that Cesc Fabregas, who joined Arsenal when he was 16, counts as one of the Gunners' home-grown quota.

    4) In addition to the 25-man named squad, clubs can use an unlimited number of players aged 21 or under. This means that Manchester City's new £22.5m striker Mario Balotelli, who is just 20, does not need to be named in their 25-man squad. According to the Premier League: "An Under 21 player is defined as one who is under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences. For the 2010/11 campaign Under 21 players will have been born on or after 1st January 1989."

    5) Clubs can make changes to their squad but only during transfer windows, so once submitted the clubs will be stuck with that squad until January. Only in exceptional circumstances, such as a goalkeeper crisis, can changes be made outside the window, and then only if the Premier League board approves the changes.

    6) Once the transfer window opens again, there are no restrictions on how many changes clubs can make to their squads, so they can replace the entire 25 if they want to.

    7) Even if a player is not named in the 25-man squad, they can still play in the FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League or Europa League.

    8) Players from the 25-man squad cannot be replaced if they are loaned to Football League clubs, but can regain their spot in the group if they return to the parent club.

    9) Clubs do not have to name a full squad of 25 if they do not have that many contracted players and in this case they can add free agents outside the transfer window. However if they have 25 eligible contracted players, they must be named.

    10) Similarly, clubs do not have to name eight 'home-grown' players if they do not have enough, but this would mean submitting a reduced squad.

Better training would be a start, we cannot put the level of injuries down to bad luck alone!.

I've got a pub and while heartily advocate responsible drinking....I also encourage drinking in the afternoon. My own personal drinking is preferably in the afternoons too. Can't be going to discos at my age...looks a bit creepy! Fill your boots!
