Pepe Reina, regarding by many as the best keeper in the league, has made quite a few, previously out of character mistakes this season and has had a few clumsy moments. reina has played pretty much every league game for Liverpool since he arrived in 2005 and he has been very loyal. When things started to slide for us he was one of te ones who kept fighting, gave a lot of inspirational interviews and messages and I believe was our player of the year one season. But this season he has not quite been the same. He has looked clumsy, he doesn't seem to be mr smiley on the pitch so often, and the inspirational interviews are rare. During the summer the press were linking Reina with a move away from Liverpool, back to Spain. They were suggesting he was no longer happy in Liverpool. When I see him this season I just cant help but think his mind seems to be else where. Whether its a personal thing or football thing I havnt got a clue, but it worries me. Has any one else thought the same? I'm not blaming him for a loss of form at all. I'm just getting very used to seeing this face expression.
Hes certainly probably had his 2nd worst season for LFC, his 1st was the worst, still a top keeper though, but had made a few errors this season and icant remember the last time he made a top save Top player a little off form he'll be back
He seems to get beaten through his legs almost all of the time these days. I don't know whether it's just coincidence, or players aiming there because they know they're likely to score. Same with crosses. We seem to concede a lot from those. That, and penalties. Any time we give away a penalty, I know it's going to be a goal. When was the last time anyone missed one against us (in normal time)? The opposite is the case at the other end. I switched over when Dirk stepped up against Arsenal because I knew he'd miss. Was hoping to turn back on and see 1-0, but wasn't surprised.
reina is still number one in the PL. you now see these "flaws" because our strikers are not hitting the net in the right places. our problem is upfront (and perhaps management). leave reina alone!
Yep,no1 keeper....you also have the best defenders.....the best midfield....oh and the best strikers.....top manager, brilliant owners and the best fans.....all in all it's a ****ing mystery why you're 7th and falling and just ahead of Wolves in the current form table.Absolute ****ing mystery.
You're right with all of those except midfielders and strikers. Certainly better fans than you plastic flag waving, 'we only sing when we're winning' fans.
. When things go wrong it really is funny to see fans turn on nearly every player in the squad at least once. When we had our bad run, people wanted the likes of Sagna,Vermaelen and Song gone. Just plain idiocy. Reina is still a top keeper.
I am going to re-explain my point because some have miss understood. I am not turning on Reina or blaming him for any thing. I have thought the things I am saying since right near the start of the season. I just think he doesn't like happy, he seems distracted, and I fear if things don't change fast he may hand in a transfer request, which would be a massive blow to the whole team. I think Sagna's awesome, and he looks like a mop. The rest not so awesome. Reina is a top goal keeper.
His dad played for Athletico Madrid, and he has said in the past he'd like to follow in his foot steps. I really hope I'm wrong and Reina is still loving life in Liverpool.
No doubt that Reina has been a little shaky at times but it coincides with our disrupted defence. Once we have a settled defence of Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique - then we will see the clean sheets return.
He has made a few errors but still is world class, with a back 4 of Johnson, Skrtle, Agger, Enrique and Lucas in front of that you will see the confidence back in him, if he can't trust his defence then he is going to be on edge isn't he.
Have beena keeper, you have bad seasons, most mistakes dont lead to goals as they are minor or you get bailed out but this season a few have led to goals. I remember vDS having a few shockers before and after joining united Peter shilton, as awesome as he was bad sometimes Schmeicel had off seasons but you'd hardly tell with United dominating they wa they were I've seen Toldo be shocking Iker had 1 bad season at real by his standards With all of the above, they set the bar so high htat even they cannot keep it up every season. The consistency they had meant that it would always be visible when they were not at 100% I do reckon forwards caught on that shots between the legs is his weakness, he gets suckered for it often this season
