Yes I agree we should look at past and be greatful for what we have, but fans should be able to criticise the team without older fans saying 'Oh we where playing York City infront of 3,000 15 years ago'. I don't mean the stupid morons that ring up Humberside or people having a go because we only picked up two points from 9 points, after a run of 11 games unbeaten and still sit joint third. Do you think Fergie says Oh well we didn't win a trophy this year, but look we didn't win league title for 26 years remember that, but in the last 19 years we have 12 league titles. No, he wouldn't. He'd be staying its unacceptable for our club NOT to win a trophy, we make sure we get our title back next year. We have had 10 years of almost just success, I want that to continue. We need to stop harp on about the dark times and remember the success.
Completely agree There's a wonderful Latin phrase that I think many of our supporters could learn from: "Bonitas non est pessimis esse meliorem"
Agreed. Our more recent and therefore more relevant history is of premier league football. We should base our targets on that. Our older history is of the lower leagues. To keep bringing that up makes us just as bad as Leeds fans living in the past... except the opposite way around in terms of success.
That's bullshit. No one is saying that we should just be pleased with what we've got, but some people have a very short memory. We survived extinction by the skin of our teeth. Spending millions on transfers and paying stupid wages in a knee jerk reaction to a couple of bad performances isnt going to happen. If you want to spout latin, durate et vosmet rebus servate secundis is far more apt ("Carry on and preserve yourselves for better times" for those lucky enough not to have dabbled in classics, rather than the aforementioned bullshit which crudely translates to "It is not goodness to be better than the worst")
Completely agreed. The SAF and Leeds comparisons sum it up. Why should we accept mediocrity if there's a chance of achieving something?
I'm not saying that. Thats why I said not the morons who ring Humberside up etc. I just don't think its acceptable to say oh well we finished 7th this year, but we where 20th in League 2 10 years ago etc. Since then we have had three promotions, two years of Premier League football and Beaten the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle, Spurs, Man City and draw with Liverpool. We shouldn't be accepting failure/chances that got away because we where hopeless 15 years ago.
I always laugh, because without sounding short sighted, its like "thank **** we don't have to play York or Scunthorpe anymore. Instead its Barnsley, Peterborough and Brighton. Yay." We know where we've come from, we aren't going to forget it so its a bit condescending to be told not to by an older person.
I think where we are currently - we have a good manager, we are being run well financially by a Chairman who loves the city of Hull as well as the club and we have a goodish squad - is not a bad place to be. Or we could go back to the Hateley years (how did he get that job)
well according to 'The Prof' (aka Brian Cox), where we come from is basically boiling down to proton gradients. Facsinating stuff. I hope this helps?
