Matty Taylor is the biggest and most valuable signing this summer.

Some of you that might remember me as cafcbenecfc will remember I was once born in Exeter some 23 years ago and I still follow the Grecians closely until league fixtures made the true feelings felt about birthplace against upbringing(I moved here from Devon at 4 years old)

Matty Taylor is a top player at a great age, he's the kind of player people want to like, came through the ranks and developed over time as a person and a player. Paul Tisdale also is a very similar management style to Powell, young, hungry and after quality football, Taylor was one of his earlier signings.

Now he is a great age for a defender, not for the next 10 years, but 4 years of prime ability. He is a great leader of men, humble and proper footballer, gets about in the box, can put his foot in, clear and organise the line around him.

Now, just as importantly, the fee. £0! A great move, he is worth money, and we've spent reputedly large fee's for most of our other signings this summer, good signings, but this is a priority position and a player that wants to and has the ability to move forward whilst he can move forward in his career considering his path to date. I wanted him signed 2 years ago, better now than never I hope.

Agree 100%. Other than Green he's the only one whose performances against us I can specifically remember...

Just what I like to read from someone who knows the player.

He made the step up to league one level seamlessly, however the pressure of our club will be a new challenge, something I thinknhe will be just fine with

I think you're right Ben - I've got no concerns about this player at all.

Only managed to have one brief chat with an Exeter supporter at work and he said that Taylor is unfussy, marshals the defence with great authority and has a lot of anticipation of situations which means that a lot of opposition moves get cut out before a threat occurs.

Think of the game at The Valley, even taking into account what a dire performance it was, how many times did we even get within striking distance of goal?

Now - who goes alongside him?

Agree with what you say about Tisdale as well - fine manager, who's got Exeter playing to their full potential.

The loss of Cureton and Taylor could be crucial this season though.

Really could be vital for them, definitely.

It makes it all the sweeter that he rejected several of our rivals to sign. Another sign of CP selling his vision.
