Bizarre day. Turned up for the morning surgery slot at Guys to discover that they had moved me to the afternoon and told everyone except, you guessed it, me! Seven hours in hospital with some very boring people. Anaesthetist happy to go despite my dodgy chest. Gowned up and ready to roll and surgeon decides that the degradation he expected over the lat 8 months has not happened and advised me not to have the operation now when I could probably soldier on for a couple of years. Don't get me wrong, good news in a sense, but very confusing and an utter waste of time. At least I get to see our run in. Going out on last nights performance would have been a bit of a downer. Ho hum. Life's rich tapestry and all that.

Feel for you mate, somehow hospitals always make you wait for hours, why can't they just tell you to turn up later?

Cheers Captain. Everybody was so nice and so incredibly hard working. I'm a massive fan of the medical profession at all levels. It's just the incompetent admin that lets it all down.

Sorry to hear it and glad to hear it at the same time if you know what I mean <ok>

So it's just a pain in the arse (or leg in your case) rather than something which stops you doing stuff?

Yep. I have arthritic spurs on two metatarsals. The advice last year was to go for a fusion of the joint but the regression has not been as bad as predicted and as I'm only 47 today's advice was to leave it be so long as I can cope. There are days where it hurts like hell, many where it is just a nuisance and lots where I barely notice it. So it will need to be done but not yet. I'm pleased in one sense although it feels like postponing the inevitable and the emotional preparation for something that didn't happen is a bit draining. All of that said, many folk cope with far far worse so it's trifling in comparison to other peoples problems. I've got it in perspective. The advice has been to avoid surgery unless absolutely necessary and at the end of the day I have a sore foot. Life could be a lot worse.

Chop your foot off with a meat cleaver, job done. No pain forever (well, maybe a little at the start).
