He's an egomaniac and a strutting show pony as well. Mike Dean on the other hand is just a blatant cheat or a total incompetent or both. He waves red cards around like a Morris dancer waves hankies, gets it wrong more often than not, but obviously really gets off on the "power".He has ruined more games than the weather.
Seems Clattenberg has had a "better" offer than China, he's off to the Middle East. Good luck with that.
I really do not want to go to Arabia, it is far and away the most backward society on the planet, I do not call that fun. But , hey if it gets rid of Clappenburg I'll do it for the cause.
Lucky for you Abu, the Saudis are going to send one of their fleet of 747's to pick up Clattenberg. They had to convert the aircraft, which is normally configured to fly Bugattis, Ferraris, McLarens and tricked up Range Rovers to London for the summer. This is so their 17 year old sons don't have to use the Tube during their hedonistic summer break, whoring, drinking and drag racing around the streets of Knightsbridge and Chelsea. They need this "rest" period after a tough year of cutting off hands, Public beheadings, and flogging women who try to drive a car. As I said, a real fun place.
I've ben told the 747 is not big enough to accommodate his ego bud, so they have chartered an A380 to do the job. I'm gonna have to let you down this time chap's I ain't got a pilots license.
I remember standing on the terraces 30 years ago and shouting "foul", then me, my mates and everyone around us would say "no, ref says no, he must have got the ball". That was before the days of 40 different camera angles and ultra slow-mo though so we were pretty much stuck with human perception and couldn't be much better refs after the fact. I giggle when a player passes a ball 50 yards and the linesman misses the fact that a strikers toe is off-side at the point of the pass, are we meant to employ Marty Feldman clones as linesmen now
watched today, he was brilliant. reffed the game well was inconspicuous and let the game flow. he's a gem. we dont want celebrety refs.
To be perfectly honest, hardly any. Michael Oliver keeps getting the thumbs up, but in my book he's no more than OK. My problem with Clattenberg, et al, is that in the age of incessant close ups, they are Media aware, and the ego takes over. They are all prone to mistakes, which TV magnifies, so I don't envy them that. Clattenberg however, invites controversy with his "Hollywood manner" , because he WAS in the spotlight, and he LOVED it. Don't have an answer to your question, but the sooner the really big decisions are taken away from top level referees, by "Goal line Technology" the better. Because those are the moments that cost teams points. Human error cannot be eliminated. Bad decisions can.
