Sven did do the dirty and go to Villa, which other manager is available who could fill the admittedly big hole he would leave?

First of all, I don't think for one minute Sven is going anywhere. He is quiet because he is on holiday. I don't think Villa are the big draw they think they are and anyway, I think he is a rare beast in football...a man of his word!

So just to while away some dull off-season time...

Who would you like to see replace him?

ps the only thing which could make it happen I think is karma due to how much we have laughed at Coventry because of Marlon King!!!

If the unthinkable were to happen then (In Order of Preference):

    Martin O'Neill
    Roberto Di Matteo
    Dave Jones
    Chris Hughton
    Gus Poyet
    Lee Clark

But as I say, hopefully we won't be having to make that choice and I think Sven is happy here and isn't really being fancied by the bookies and they rarely get this sort of thing wrong.

And besides what a poisoned chalice the Villa job is now, with even perennial relegation dalliers Wigan's manager preferring to take his chances in another dog-fight rather than take charge of a team that is burdened by unaffordable wages with no prospect of investment.

The man who takes the Villa job must reconcile himself with the fact he is behind Martinez on their wish-list - The best odds you can get on Sven taking the job is an eye-watering 33-1 with most bookies putting him between 55 & 90 -1 The best advice I can give anyone who believes Sven might take the Lerner Dollar is to put some Pounds Sterling on it - Me? I think Sven will be banking the Thai Baht for some time to come yet <ok>

I thought you were going to quote Rudyard Kipling in response to people's panic that we haven't signed anyone yet :)

Obviously O'Neill would be a lot of people's first choice. I rate Hughton as well. I like Dave Jones in some respects but he's a bit of a bottler.

I wish I was clever enough to have thought of Rudyard Kipling. The only connection in my brain with 'if' when I wrote the article was the song 'If' by Telly Savalis.

    Says a lot really.

I can´t be a***ed with another manager merry-go-round so I hope any talk of SGE leaving is just hear say. But having said that I would love to have MO´N back, could you imagine that with our funds, stadium & prospects of going up ? Give him (MO`N) 2 years & it would be 'just like the good old days'.
I´m happy with SGE & I hope he stays for atleast another 2 or 3 seasons, I think stabillity is a big thing in football & it will do LC a world of good, I was saying the same thing when NP was here, who I still like as a manager & a part of me wishes he was still here.
Things are very slow at the mo (ref transfers) but it is the holidays & know doubt there is alot going on, it´s just not on the web sites or in the papers yet. Transfer window opens in less than 3 weeks so it´ll be all hands on deck.
