Owen could score 15 league goals for us this season and was on a one year contract on £30k pw, would you want us to sign him? (Assuming it's either sign Owen or sign no one)

No - I'd keep him for just one year and then replace him.

I'd pay in swirlies, nuggies, chinese-burns and the classic childhood game of 'Why-are-you-hitting-yourself?' <ok>

Only if he calls Ferguson an old pisshead in his first tv interview.

Does Owen actually want to join Liverpool? Surely he'd prefer a move to Everton who could also use some cover up front.

John Henry wrote us a lovely letter to explain in simple terms we stupid fans can understand that they want value. Paying Owen to sit in the physio room, especially now we've sacked Doc Brukner, would seem like poor value.

Other names bandied about include Drogba and Heskey, which would seem to make a mockery of letting Andy Carroll go. Brendan says, "Any player I believe can improve the squad, I will look at." He will then stop looking at them because it's not about improving the squad; Carroll did that. it's about fitting into Brendan's one and only style. I don't see Drogba or Heskey doing that any better than Carroll could've.

I wonder if Voronin's still available? He couldn't score but played some fancy backheel passes so I bet Rodgers would love him.

Drogba has more to his game than being a big static centre forward.

But the owners are not interested in short term fixes, so I doubt we'll get anyone in until January.

Now, now MFG, you know there's far more to BR's game than that, so stop with the cynicism. Or would you prefer a manager came in to get the best out of Carroll? 4-4-2 Woy perhaps?

Oh I just don't know, I don't want to get too angry about it (because it would be a ****ing joke) but I can see it happening.

The key word in the letter from the owners was 'expensive'. Thus, if we can get Owen on the cheap, BR might sign him. Annoying but true.

You never know, maybe his first action would be the last 10 minutes against utd, 1-0 winner?

Personally, a fifteen-goal (in the league) Owen would be welcome, despite the massive dump he took on the club all-but walking out as Rafa arrived.

But, given FSG's avowed statement (excusing their NOT buying Dempsey) that they're in it for 16 years, not 16 months, and Owen clearly not going to be around for more than 16 months - they'll be piss-all chance of him coming in.

So I'm not going to give it another thought.

Anyone with any better free transfer targets?

Not FSP please - he was awful the first time around...

I would take him back on four conditions. One is that he on live television states that he made an absolute howler in joining Manchester United. The other is after Liverpool score at Old Trafford, he runs to the stretford end and kisses his Liverpool badge and then gives Manchester United fans the bird. He also has to run to the Manchester United bench and shout in Fergusons face, I'm at a bigger club than you, and go **** yourself, you senile old bastard. He also has to moon Ferguson.

Do you really think Owen would accept 30K a week he will just be trying to get as much money as possible so will go to whoever offers the most. He doesnt care about playing anymore as he wouldnt of stayed at united last year if he did.

I made my last post as rediculous as possible, because for the life of me, I cannot see Owen returning or for that matter ever being accepted by Liverpool fans.
