Right now on Friday night if you were a Wigan fan (think hard its not easy) would you trade winning the FA cup for staying in the Premier League?
why is it you dont think that they will win the cup and stay up , its wigan, its football, do you think martinez is saying all right lads one or the other, his job is to do both , have a couple of quid on it .
100% FA cup, that will never be taken away from history. Think to yourself, which is harder to win. Premiership football comes and goes.
10 years ago I would have said FA Cup. These days the FA cup is not given the respect it deserves, so I would have to say staying in the prem. Then again its probably the only chance Wigan will ever have. Teams treat it like aninconvenience really. I bet Wigan are gutted at the timing of it. Tell you what though Wigan were the better side when they played Man City away and were unlucky to loose.
Forget the FA Cup, they´re going to be in Europe anyway, win or lose, if that was me, and I could get away with it, I´d put out a reserve team.
I think it is arrogant that Wigan can play badly for most of the season but then think they can win the last game and stay up year after year.
The European football is the least important thing here below the PL. Its having your name on that trophy and saying that you've won something. Particularly for clubs like ours and Wigan because the opportunity is so rare.
It's just a question, the op didn't say they can't do both. But if you think of it as your team, what would you prefer, stay up or win the FA cup? Obviously you'd want both, but that's the question.
I guarantee I know where Whelan would prefer to be next year carrabuh, and that´s not the Championship, in fact he´s recently said so.
From a fan's point of view FA cup 100%. A small club are just 1 game away from a trophy generations will remember and photos that will become famous in the club's history. ...if they lose, just one game away from their cup run meaning practically nothing. Just because The Winner Takes It All in a cup competition doesn't mean the prize isn't a once in a lifetime highlight.
