Young QPR fans suffered at Everton but still wanted to meet their heroes on the train back... so why did the first-class fools at this deluded club turn them away? Young QPR fans were not allowed to meet the players on the train By Adrian Durham PUBLISHED: 08:58 GMT, 7 January 2014 | UPDATED: 12:08 GMT, 7 January 2014 140 shares 66 View comments If you want an example of a club lost in its own deluded world of self-importance, I give you Queens Park Rangers, ladies and gentlemen. After watching their well-paid internationals get absolutely battered out of sight by Everton in the FA Cup at Goodison Park on Saturday, I took the train back to London. Us minions waited in a queue to board the train at Lime Street, while the Rangers players ambled slowly along the platform to the first-class carriage at the front of the train. Quite what made them so important that the rest of us had to wait I’m not sure. Once on board some excited young QPR fans aged around nine or 10 ran towards the front of the train, hoping to get autographs from their ‘heroes’. They were stopped and told that security would not let them through. They were then advised that once the train arrived at Euston if they were quick they might catch the players then. Let’s get this straight: QPR fans were still willing to idolise the players who had been embarrassingly dreadful at Everton but were denied that chance because those players apparently needed to be left alone. Players are lost in a world where they think they’re really important, even when they’re actually being rubbish at their jobs. Oh yeah, I'm sure it would have gone down a storm with the other first class passengers if a load of Qpr fans mobbed in to get photos and autographs, it was probably the train guards that stopped them, typical Daily Fail dog sh@*e article!
There is a four page thread on this over on WATRBs. Ian Taylor has issued a statement. http://www.wearetherangersboys.com/...-young-QPR-fans-from-meeting-players-on-train
This is the guts of am email I received from Ian Taylor yesterday. I didn't post it up then as no one had picked up on the story. I am sure some, if not all, of you have seen this article today - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...rubbish-Everton-fans-wanted-greet-heroes.html Before I tweet a response from my twitter account, I just wanted to provide you all with some background, that you are free to use on your sites Having spoken to our PLO (Player Liaison Officer) this morning, he and the rest of the backroom staff were unaware that anyone tried to gain access to the carriage the squad were on Any security that would have stopped them would have been Virgin staff and the police, as we did not take our own security As you know, our players and manager are always happy to pose for photographs and sign autographs both before and after games - this is something Harry himself insists on Needless to say, the journalist in question didn’t check any of the above before printing the story Happy to set the record straight Speak soon Regards Ian The usual sensationalistic drivel from Durham, I'm surprised that even the Fail bother with him.
Sensationalism at its worst. Doesn't matter whether it's true or not as long as it makes a good story.
As you know, our players and manager are always happy to pose for photographs and sign autographs both before and after games - this is something Harry himself insists on this is good to see
I hadn't seen any Ian Taylor response and nailed it on the head, my first clue that it was bulls@*t was that it was in the Daily Fail, the only place less reliable for factual information then Facebook shared posts.
A storm in a thimble. Although after a pasting like that. I would find it hard to pose and smile. Part of the job I suppose. We all have to act the part at times.
Gotta say....Our media team handle this kind of situation very well. Big up to Ian for taking time out to contact Roller and certainly other fans reps, to set the record straight.
I think I'd got half way through the article before thinking that it would have been Virgin staff or Transport Police that stopped people approaching them on the platform, so I'm not at all surprised it was Virgin staff who stopped fans on the train. I can't say I blame them - I've not been to Liverpool on the train, but if the platforms are anything like the London platforms, a group of fans trying to get autographs would play havoc with the train timetables! What a crappy rag the Mail truly, truly is.
Unfortunately there will be no big headline highlighting Ian Taylor's response, all people will remember will be the article's title which is very damaging and gives a terrible impression of the club.
Isn't this the other side of the story? By the way IT also mentioned Adrian Durham was also in First Class!
