Chatting on the phone this evening with one of my Reading supporting cousins he was getting quite worked up as a mate of his down the pub had said that Waitrose were really disappointed with the Reading strip. They claim to be paying mega bucks for sponsoring a team that plays in shirts that are the colour of Tesco carrier bags. Apparently the word on the street is they have refused to renew their sponsorship unless the team colours are changed to something in keeping with Waitrose's branding. Just what is the world of football coming to?
Why do you think we have the all red strip? It is to show up the AAP logo better, it doesn't sit well on stripes, just saying....
Isn't that normally amended by putting a little box around it? Like so: please log in to view this image
Also aap3 got the sponsorship for a minimal fee, to help a local business not a national or international big brand
Yeah, I'm guessing they don't have a lot of pull. Waitrose are much, much bigger and I think the story is feasible.
Maybe Waitrose should have sponsored Plymouth? Btw, I think aap3 got the gig because of their support for the Saints Foundation back in L1. I guess that there must have been some steep increase in the fees if we got promoted. I wonder if our rapid rise to the Premiership was bitter-sweet for them?
Waitrose must have known about the team's colours in advance. If shirt colour is an issue they should sponsor Plymouth, Yeovil or Celtic.
Possibly Waitrose way of ending their sponsoring of Reading if they get relegated ? They're liking the coverage the premiership gives them .....
It's a bad year for kits. Reading's current strip is terrible. It hardly looks like a Tesco bag though, for that it would have to be vertical stripes, stopping before the sponser name written in red. Brighton used to have a shirt like that.
