Morning all! This thread is prompted by a discussion with my kids last night. This has been an unbelievable couple of years and apart from the occasional blip, Bristol and Leicester in particular, it's been pretty much all good news. If you could go back in time though is there anything that you would change? For me this rollercoaster of emotions is all part and parcel of the enjoyment of supporting Saints so I don't think I'd change a thing. What about you?
If I'm honest, I'd have Norris sky the ball into the Northam in the dying minutes of the p*mpey game, and not have to hear the fish-fiddlers celebrating like they'd just won the league. But that's it, I wouldn't change anything else.
Good call. he probably is watching, but it would be good if we could see him with his camera at St mary's for the Coventry game. is the flag coming out for this?
The Markus one is a good shout. On a more selfish note I would have us not lose to Bristol City at home, it was a depressing way to finish that record run. There are slightly forgiven now though, due to recent events.
I 4 1 do not begrudge Bristol any of the six points they took from us. In fact I think we should have given them even more.
I think the Markus flag will only be used for the memorial games. besides, with a sell-out crowd, there'll be nowhere to put it. I think they should get a couple of blokes to run it around the stadium though, like they do at Reading with their "13th man" flag. On a personal level, I wish I'd kept a diary of the last two tears. For our last season in the Championship, I kept a diary of what was happening with the club, away games I'd been to, home performances, little anecdotes etc, and I wish I'd kept that going. Would have made an amazing read considering what's happened since Markus took over.
Drawing to the skates on both occasions was disappointing. Markus to be here would be great. Losing to Bristol City at home was disappointing too as we would have had a whole year unbeaten at home.
We did have a whole year unbeaten at home - the Brizzle game was 30th December and the previous game that we lost was on 11th December 2010 (I think - I remember thinking we were one day shy of a 100% home record for a whole year when we drew with Blackpool on 10th December). Or did you mean calendar year?
You don't have Saints Player, right. Because if you did, you would have seen enough Adkins interviews to see that nothing in the past can be changed and only the future should be focused on. Stay in the hear and now. Control the controllables. Get a grip man. Watch Nigel Adkins. Look I'll give you a link. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17728729#asset
Apart from wishing that Marcus had lived to see us now, i wouldnt change anything over the past couple of years. If anything its been really good for this club to go down to Lg1, have 10 points deducted and fight against all the odds to get back to the Prem ( hopefully this w/e ) - its been humbling and for me a good experience to visit smaller towns and clubs on our travels. One of the best nights out for years was in Carlisle after we lost 2-3 there. I feel that the club, apart from the obvious financial side, is so much stronger for the experience. Of course there are the odd results that have gone against us where it would have been nice to have won i.e. recent Pompey game - but thats football and no team is going to win all their games !
The only thing, apart from bringing Markus back, which I would like to have seen happen is for us to have caught Brighton and won the title last season. In many ways that would have been nicer than winning the title this season, although if we can manage that instead I won't be complaining!
Yeah I like this one. Sharp's winning goal would have been remembered in the same light as Steve Moran in 1984. They ruined that for us.
Actually, I realise why I got confused...they use the number 13 shirt for the fans, so the flag shows a shirt with 13 on it.
I was going to mention Markus as well. A Pompey fan said to me recently that it was sad our owner couldn't see it...shows that some are human I also wish that we had a few more points (from Pompey game would have been nice) so that we could have clinched title by now, but I will settle for promotion. In a few years time it won't matter whether we were 1st or 2nd, but a trophy would have been nice.
