... in what sort of shape do people think we would be in for the Premier League? Relative to the other promotion contenders and the teams that look likely to stay up this season?
I think there has to be a realisation that the current team simply wouldn't be up to the job, meaning another clear-out and another influx of players would be on the cards. Whether or not they would gel as quickly as the current squad did is debatable though. Just out of interest, I wonder who people think would stay and who would go?
For me it's between Sunderland and Villa for the third relegation spot, and they are in similar situations anyway.
None of the teams below the top 7 are that special. Hence why Swansea West Ham etc have done OK and why the Prem sides lost so many Cup games to lower division sides. We would need some extra quality to be sure but no promited side is likkely to survive without improvement
Would struggle with some of the current squad, so a big influx of loan players - will be great to see Hollowhead explode though...
I imagine that Abdi, Vydra, Ekstrand, Pudil, Anya, Battocchio, Cassetti, and possibly Neuton and Geijo, would all sign permanently on varying contract lengths should we achieve promotion. If we could clear out all the deadwood, and sign Chalobah on for another season, we would probably need at least 5 quality signings plus another 3 or 4 reliable squad players to give ourselves a good chance of surviving comfortably. With the scouting network we have available, I believe we'll be able to bring in the right players, but obviously we need to get there first!!
From my position of not seeing this team play and only looking at results and statistics I think with luck and some good referees this team could stay in the Premier League. Thy would have a big fight but I think they could remain. Perhaps there will be a few new players but I think the team who got promotion should have their chance. We have many of the required standard already. Who will stay up in the top league? Easier for me to say who will not. Queens Park Rangers and Reading is obvious and accompanying them will be Newcastle United. I say Newcastle because they will be concentrating on the Europa Cup for the next weeks, Wigan have a game extra to get points and Sunderland will respond to Paulo di Canio. Aston Villa will get some luck and escape.
....................some classic English names there pal! Listen guys, back to the thread title "pulling off the unmentionable" - if we beat you tomorrow night, there'll be quite a few Cardiff supporters doing it.....
.........I wouldn't go quite that far, but if we did lose, I might decide to go celebate for a while. (about 24 hours should do it.........)
Not too sure about Pudil, Neuton hasn't impressed at all, and poor old Geijo hasn't really been given much of a chance at all - so hard to say either if he would make the transition or even if he would stay. As for a clear-out, I think we'd be waving goodbye to Hall, Hogg, Yeates, Jenkins, Dickinson, Mingoia, Bia and possibly even Nos and Thompson. I can't see us dispensing with Deeney, Hoban, Murray or Smith - and it would be great if we could have Chalobah for another season. Even if we don't go up, I wouldn't be surprised if those changes happen anyway.
BB, I'm surprised that you haven't mentioned Hodson or Iwelumo. Whether McGinn stays might be decided on how he goes in pre-season training.
Forgot about them, that's why They'll go, but McGinn, as you say, could stay. Also didn't mention Forsyth, who I think GZ thinks quite highly of, so will probably remain.
Listened to Luther Tuesday night while Jon Marks was puffing up and down stairs to interview GFZ. His view was that if we did go up, WFC would be the No.1 in the group and could expect to see established players from Udi being sent over on loan. As he put it, "Would you rather play in Serie A or the Prem? The answer is they would be over like a shot".
Wot a depressing thought! So one bunch of Temps replaced by another lot of possible short-termers. Well judging by the majority on here, they'd be quite happy as have gone along with it all since started sniffing success a few months ago. Nobody else out there interested in the LONG TERM future of the club tho? This owner may have saved the club at the time, but he aint guaranteed to always put WFC before all his other interests just cos YOU support THIS club. If I were a parent of a promising youngster now I would be loathe to recommend this club seeing how many have been farmed out to possible obscurity this season.Sad in view of the fine record of producing players over many years. Seems majority of you only want to think about the current league position tho and possible glory.
