This quote was posted by seamange, not I may add, his personal view I assume it was off the Rovers website. Was the author watching a different team or perhaps game? as the first half hardly merited a comment, other than perhaps "hopefully JW puts his boot up there arses at half time" as we were dire. The only positive is that if we were performing well, it would be painful if Rochdale scored more than one! At half time the light is fading and as the storm clouds gather, a couple of fans pass me on the way to the refreshment cabin "we haven't created a single ******g chance"almost as sharp and cold as the weather. The queue's much to long so I plod back cold without a hot drink! Rochdale started the brighter of the two teams conrolling the first half and come nowhere near either scoring or conceding.Rovers slow and lethargic, rarely putting more than 2 passes together before we lost the ball groan. Second half it gets colder and the rain buckets down Rovers start competing for the ball and in the first 10 minutes even manage a couple of shots on goal the same as was managed for the first half after an initial flurrie of action the game drops into a similie of the first have so we start talking about the Rugby and should we depart early to see the start, thankfully we are shaken from our slumbers as Ellis Harrison what a player he is going to be, reminds us of Nathan Ellington without the bulk, one drop of the shoulder shimmy left to right, takes defenders on and pulls the trigger, before the opposition know whats happened the ball is in the back of the net 1-0 Rovers the game has come to life. Unfortunately it has the effect of raising Rochdales game for the next 10 mins or so they lay seige in our half with Rovers last ditch tackles flying in bodies on the line sort of thing, typically they score 1-1 from a defensive error our lead did not last long.Over the next ten minutes they look to take all three points piling men forward looking for that elusive goal there number 9 misses a sitter open goal Mildenhall rallys the team following a quick pass upfield a shot the ball falls to Harrison who makes some more space and fires home another goal 2-1 from then on it looks like we are going to win Rugby is banished from our thoughts and everyone springs up and down singing loudly, JW substitutes Ellis for Tounkara ,assume to ensure he gets a cheer for his contribution. Shame he did not bring Tounkara on earlier as he hardly has time to show us what he is made of when the full time whistle is blown we all agree that it was a bit of a smash and grab used that phrase as the guy alongside me mentioned that JJ looks a little like Warboys without the sideburns oh yes there attacker grabbed a handful of jj's hair which he took offence to and retaliated both should have been booked but only JJ received a card the lino failed to see the offence still thats nothing new. So we all leave the ground shaking our heads most of us saying if you play that badly and win you aint going down JW has the magic touch even though our midfield was woeful not Woodards or Patersons faults they are defenders and have no right playing in the centre of midfield JW got away with a win today against a better team perhaps he will not be so lucky who cares. Oh the day got even better as we filed out of the ground confirmation that City lost 2-1 against Wolves came over the tannoy, sadly England played as badly as Rovers and were found wanting by our Welsh cousins. What did you think of the match am I to hard on the team or did we get lucky.. COR View attachment 22279
i thought we dominated from start to finish and deserve the points and should have won by a clear 6 goals
only joking of course. i thought we could have easily been 3/4 or even 5 goals down by half time. it was a disappointing performance in the 1st half. rochdale looked good. at times our defence looked like strangers to each other. thought o'toole was missing and paterson didnt look good at all. richards was missing far to many times. reminds me of lines when he went missing for 70 mins of the game. 1 positive going into the half time team talk was that we were not losing and got the chance to rectify the 1st half by turning up properly for the 2nd half. 2nd half was a betetr performance but we didnt look like scoring until harrison scored his cracker. when we scored i thought we would hold on. we looked like in better shape. i thought we looked more likely to score than them and then they scored a cracker as well. the players made some weird decision. hitchcock went through and we had 2 on 1 with tounkara free and would have been 1 on 1 with the keeper but hitchcok messed it up. but we did look like scoring more then rochdale. i had that confidence we would do it. that confidence has built up now due to recent results. we got away with it for sure. but its about time we had some luck as we have lost games where we dominated. about time we won ugly for once. sign of a good team winning when didnt deserve to
I couldn't give a **** how we do it, just get the points to stay in the football league is all that has mattered in the last few months. We can worry about playing ****/style of play etc another day.
good point. but being use to good performances to go along with the results, performance yesterday looked like we going backwards. thats the concern. if that was against a better side yesterday i doubt they would have wasted the chances that was wasted by rochdale yesterday.
I agree CJ we deserved some luck played better and lost games. As for the points again agree Gas. The reason JJ went missing was that he was almost another striker strange as we really needed a midfielder as Harrison is not strong enough in defence (not a criticism he will get better as he builds his body strength up) Richards was missing and Paterson and Woodards tried hard but failed Patersons got the football brain but the legs have gone south no pace to work the middle with JJ up front with Brunt we had no creativity in the middle (lack of Norburn who links well with Brunt)which pushed Richards out on the wing and his body language was all wrong he seems to be a mood player and he was not in the mood to work hard for the team saturday. My concern is that we are so light in midfield due to injuries what is going on this season falling like flys! that when JJ leaves we will be even more exposed to a decent team who will walk through the middle applying pressure on our defence.Definately require a midfielder but assume that will not happen until next season when JW sorts out his new contract as we appear to be almost safe. I think we will need more than 51 this season as all the teams at the bottom keep winning and have a game in hand good cushion 11pts though not complaining look fairly safe will wait until mathematically confirmed. COR
