Which team position would it be?
I'd have to say that we need a CB badly. I'm laid back about our striking options driven that SDJ can play there too.
We just need a whopping man mountain of a CB to command the defence.

 

What we really need is someone like Vertonghen or Vermaelen. Neither of these players is getting regular football down in North London.

Admittedly their wages are a problem as is the fact we can't offer them Europe. OK fine, these 2 are both non-starters but I'd like one of them or equivalent here alongside Collo.

 

Big strong forward that can play. I'd go one of

Lukaku
Carroll
Benteke

Start scoring goals freely and some of the pressure is off of the defence

 

If we could get Lukaku, then him. If we couldn't, then a first rate CB. Strikers relieve the pressure on CB's and vice versa.

 

Striker all day long. Someone who can get us 15 goals a season. If we settle on just getting a quality CB we will have no one of quality to put it the ball in the back of the net for us on a regular basis.

Striker all day. It is of paramount importance in the PL and wins you games. It also releases pressure on the defenders. Particularly when the ball sticks like it did with Ba for instance.

 

Striker (lukaku ideally) ...a consistent strong tough 15+ goals a season type ...can always score one more than you if a little leaky at the back

 

With Pardew's tactic of sitting back if we go a goal up we may struggle with our current defensive options. I do hope we get another CB before the window shuts.

 

Fair point I hadn't factored in our glorious leader's desire for holding on grimly to a 4th minute goal lead against Darlington ..That said you might want a CB , but Pardew would only play / bring him on at 60 mins as a LB substitute ...no matter who the CB was

We would be in trouble as we need a top cb and a natural goal scorer up top.
We also need an etc couple of midfielders as Back up as arfa and marv going on top of a weak squad
