Well someone asked for the thread and the Mods always deliver. Well all the Mods except Chippy always del... Well all the Mods except Chippy and No Chance...and Jak Man...and Whiter than Day...Well me, I always deliver...well most of the time...okay, okay when I feel like it. Anyway who would you buy IF we had £100M to spend?
The Turk striker Tuson(?) Luke Shaw on loan with option to buy Batashuyia on loan with option to buy (well you may as well dream, it’s nearly Christmas) Some good DM not had time to think that one through
Festive as in Christmas? It's not Christmas yet. It's the 12th December. £100m would go pretty quickly if we are trying to make offers which are too good to refuse to club's who don't want to sell. We would still need to buy/loan carefully.
I would be tempted with good loan deals and pay the wages. Get us out of this ****. Luke Shaw. Daniel sturridge. Bast Dost.
Problem with this is that if we do suddenly come into serious player investment the same will happen as happened with the other newly rich clubs. The first investment gets spent on good players who are almost past it and out for a final pay day. Its not until you start to win stuff that the better players in their prime can be tempted. So I would spend 50mill on keeping us up and the other 50mill on building a cracking new academy and training complex and start building for the future. The players I would go for would be Shaw, Sturridge and Barclay all on loan with ridiculous payments to get them to come for 6 months.
I'm not counting any chickens that the club will be sold, or that somehow we will miraculously have a mega-rich benefactor (I think a lot of people will be quite disappointed if/when the reality hits - this is Newcastle after all and things like that just don't happen to us), but even if there is pots of cash available it would be far, far more difficult to built a club capable of competing at the business end of the table and win trophies than it ever was for the likes of Chelsea or Man City. It would just cost so much more these days with the transfer fees that are involved now - they have gone up by multiples of what inflation rates have been because of the growth in TV money, merchandising and the vast sums already injected by rich owners.
This is true but it’s all relative. You buy high and you sell high in most cases. In reality we won’t probably be competing at the top end if we are bought out ever. But it would be nice to not have to flirt with relegation. Seeing good young players come through a well ran academy. Maybe even a cup run.
I'd just loan the **** out of that money, like many of you guys. I'd borrow as many as i could possibly afford to make us a competitive PL club. Shaw, Ings, Batshuayi, Fosu-Mensah, Barclay and Townsend. The only thing I'd be really tempted to do with the money in terms of spending would be to see if we could grab William Carvalho for £20m.
Id go out and buy 100 young Brazilians for a mill a piece, then sit back and wait for the money to roll in in 5 years. NICE.
Sounds like a true Ashley plan, though he'd only spend £10 mill on players and divert £90 mill into some sporting goods venture in South America.
If we had a hundred million war chest, my best guess is we would still end up with a crock of **** because as soon as it’s known you have that sort of cash to splash, all the prices go up. But seeing as we are fantasising ..... Willian Bast Dost or Olivier Giroud Luke Shaw
