on Saturday who would you play against Coventry? the strongest side available or some youngsters who deserve a crack?
Strongest side, give them the send off they deserve then bring on the likes of JWP and Shaw potentially. We all know how crucial momentum is....
Always play strongest side. Even if we don't need to win, I'm sure the first eleven will want to play. If score is good, a few can be put on as subs late in the game to give us the opportunity to applaud off players like Lambert.
I think the main 1st team players would be devastated to miss out on playing (even if we can't win the league). Massive crowd, party atmosphere, chance to relax and enjoy themselves with a chance of banging in a few goals. Strongest side all the way I reckon. Do they need to play a certain number of games to qualify for medal (assuming there is a medal)? If so, might be some logic in fixing it as far as possible
Definitely play strongest side, only need Reading to drop 3 points and we're champions. Now that they are confirmed promoted there's every chance of them taking their foot off the gas...
Agree with the above, if we get the job done on Saturday (at that means not relying on West Ham doing it for us on Monday), then we'll still be in with a mathmatical chance of the title. So we'd have to go for it vs Coventry. That said, I've said for a while now that if promotion is wrapped up before the Coventry, I'd want Jaidi selected on the bench and brought on for the last 10 mins. Chance for him and us to say thank you and goodbye.
Although there are allowances for squad rotation, a manager must field his strongest available side. Granted, if the scoreline is acutely one-sided then a manager can bring on some squad youngsters to gain experience [just seen the post above, so... or Jaidi], later on in the game. To do anything less is disrespectful to the opposition, and for Adkins part, he'd have none of that.
I agree we should be fair, as Nigel will, and play our strongest XI. I would like to see Dan Seaborne get a run out though, would be nice. Am I being too sentimental or do you agree?
If all is well, I would go with: (Our Best XI this season IMO) Davis Richardson Fonte Hooiveld Fox Guly Schneiderlin Cork Lallana Lambert Sharp Subs: Martin, Hammond, Harding, Reeves, Ward-Prowse Don't want to be too sentimental, but the youngsters (Martin, Reeves & WP) definetely deserve some gametime in a home atmosphere like that - Just hope they don't get crushed in the pitch invasion!
Imagine if Coventry could still stay up and we played a weakened team - Bristol City would go apesh*t.
The youngsters will get their opportunity in the future i would play the strongest team but i would put Jaidi on the bench instead of Martin and if we get to 3-0 or something. i would bring Jaidi on for a send off as he has been great for us.
I don't think there is any question that the strongest team will play. The players deserve to play in that game anyway.
Depends on the how we get the job done. If we win then we won't be more than 3 points away from Reading and the Championship title, so we should gun the throttle and go for it. Put the nippers on the bench and should we take a commanding lead (or should Reading get a commanding lead), bring on the team of tomorrow. OTOH, if we lose/draw and Wham do the same, then bed in some of the nippers with a few fan faves like Lala, Davis and Lambo.
