Next season looks a lot more promising based on the players and management team we have in place. Love him or hate him Bruce is a universally well respected and experienced manager who deals well in the transfer market and apart from one injury-strewn season has been very successful here. Mike Phelan is already improving performances at City and both his impeccable coaching credentials and his good relationship with Brucie promise a lot. With a good mix of youth and experience a few key signings should give us a squad that can compete well in this division. We have the likes of; Robertson, Maguire (and hopefully Lenihan) coming through, with Brady and Chester still young and improving. Dawson, Elmo, Diame, Jelavic, N'Doye (and hopefully Snodgrass) form a good spine and add to those; Huddlestone, Davies and Livermore if they can get their heads straight. IMO the most obvious players we lack are a dependable keeper and a third goal scoring striker (which could still be Hernandez if he can adapt to the Prem.) Thoughts?....
I do think McGregor has been good in the last 2 games and hasn't looked as nervy, although I do think we need a new GK next season as I still feel he has alot of weaknesses in his game!
Don't get me wrong 'cos I think Brucey's great, Craig, but: Proschwitz? Sagbo? Hernandez (maybe)? Aluko (also maybe)?
For me that has been down to the fact that he's had dependable defenders in front of him. Curtis Davies is great when he's great but, as we all know, that's been very rare this season.
We don't need to buy another striker. We have 3 good ones now, either loan one or promote a youth player. Otherwise we will end up like QPR and have too many. Another keeper will certainly be on the agenda, as would another right back.
Love Him or Hate Him????????????? There's only one kind of City Fan hates Steve Bruce..............the cretinous kind! Apart from that, as I said in January, the best signing we'll make has already been made, ie. Mick Phelan. He has made a clear ly visible difference to the INDIVIDUAL technique of the players and as his coaching develops I expect us to get better and better.
Usually agree with the stuff you come up with Sterling, but I think we need 2 capable players for every position. We have 2 striking positions so I think we need 4 capable players. We still lack REAL pace up front.
Every manager signs a few players that don't work out, but almost all of Bruce's signings indicated that he was a major reason they signed for us.
Th Thing is, we've bought a striker in every transfer window for as long as I can remember. Hernandez, N'doye and Jelavic should be the main three, then maybe a youth loan to fill in the gap. Strikers cost the most, so to get value for money they need to be playing and doing well, if we have four strikers, how do you convince two of them that they will be back up until injury Occurs? I think Aluko is a decent option as a fourth choice striker and we will have him for another year At least. The money can be better spent elsewhere in my opinion.
IF i say IF............... ffs Anyone who hates Steve Bruce is not a genuine Hull City fan and can just feck off right now. 99.9% of the SB hate mob are just plastics who know nowt anyway. As for next season the best thing that SB will want and hope for is far less injuries. Another club can suffer. The future s very bright. We just need to replace SAGBO for a start. Someone from the championship who just misses out on promotion this season will do and be the 4th striker.
For me if we survive (which we will) a keeper who can command his box, for me McGregor, as he proved against villa is a great shot stopper, but on set pieces and crosses he does make me nervous, plus he's under no pressure for his spot. Another midfielder and a striker, other than that can't see us going mad in the transfer market. edit, with the strikers we've got, it might be the right time to take a punt on a striker from the lower leagues.
That applies to any GK. If Harper wants another year then we have 3 PL standard GK. It is IF Harper calls it a day that we need to look. IMO, if we have to look elsewhere for a new GK then MARSHALL from Cardiff is more than good enough and is part of the Scotland set up now.
Sadly we missed that chance in jan with Eoin Doyle,, who will cost Cardiff no more than £1m reports suggest. If Middlesboro fail to come up then i would ask Jose Mourinho for Patrick Bamford on loan for a season at least. The kid looks good. Also i would like us to try and do a deal for that Damari Grey from Birmingham. imo.
Might be wrong about this, but hasn't Marshall been struggling to get into the 1st team this season./ or has a long term injury cant remember which.
Think it is an injury. But last season Marshall was the player of the season for Cardiff by far. Nice to have 2 of Scotlands 3 keepers here. lol.
