There's only two Stephane Sessegnons............the sunday sun..........

I'd love this story about AJ to be true.

A left footed sessegnon would be nice, there must be a bargin out there somewhere. We got Sess for £6 million and I would say hes worth about £8million now and that will climb after this season I'm sure of it.

    Completely Agree.

However unlikely it is, adding AJ to our squad would definitely put us in that bracket of clubs chasing 6th / 7th spot. At this stage I think the most we can hope for is 9th / 10th, which admittedly I will not be too disappointed with.

This kids only going to get better so forking out £12m now would be a sound investment as his value would no doubt increase.

No way we can fork out £12 million on him, maybe next season after we have another top ten finish hopefully we will be looking at 2 or 3 pure quality players but for now we just needed to re-build our thread bear squad, which Bruce has done reasonably well even if we have no left wing, we are still good enough to get tenth at least I think and that would do me for next season along with stuffing the mags

Why not?? How much money do we have - the club are looking to invest in the right type of player. £12m would provide good business as in 3 years time if he improves then he'll be worth double that - also if he improves our side and league position then £12m is an investment that is worthwhile.

How do you know we don't have that amount to spend?? We're still in profit transfer wise overall and this would certainly put bums on seats

Well this is from todays Echo.....

ADAM Johnson has welcomed the support of Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini after a weekend in which the Wearside-born winger was linked with a season-long loan move to Sunderland.

Sunday papers suggested that Steve Bruce was hopeful of bringing the England wideman to the Stadium of Light next season on loan.

Everton have also been linked with a loan move for a player who is reported to be unsettled at his lack of first-team starts at Eastlands.

But Mancini has now made it clear that Johnson remains part of his plans and the player himself responded: “Obviously it’s nice when the manager is saying stuff because when you get linked with other teams – and it’s happened to plenty of players over the years – you can start to think you’re not part of the plans.

“But it’s brilliant that he’s come out and said that.

“I think with the players we buy and the squad we’ve got, 90 per cent of the players know they’re not going to play every game. It’s just part of being a massive club.”

It would be unsurprising if Bruce was hoping to bring in Johnson, or his team-mate Craig Bellamy and Aston Villa left-back Stephen Warnock – two other players who were linked with Sunderland yesterday.

But any hopes the Black Cats’ boss might have of strengthening his squad further after nine summer signings so far, are dependent at the moment on him selling players or moving them out on loan in order to free up funds.

The trio of players mentioned are all players Bruce has expressed an admiration for in the past.

And the chance of bringing any of them in would appeal to the manager, who would love to strengthen even further.

But whatever interest Sunderland might have in new signings the priority at the Stadium of Light has become to remove players who do not have a long-term future at the club – particularly high earners – from the wage bill.

And in the lead up to the new season, that’s the area in which the energies of the manager and chairman are being focused

Can I ask - if Lionel Messi was available and wanted to come to Sunderland for £15m (hypoithetically speaking) - do you think Ellis Short and Niall Quinn would tell Bruce to sell players first.

I have read all this crap about "Sell before we can buy" but only ever in the press - never a quote from the club and, from what I've heard from my mate in the ticket office, Quinn is still working in the transfer market looking to bring players in IF (and only if) they are right for the club. Some loan some permanent but he's still working. I'm sick of all of these papers saying "Sunderland must sell before they can buy" - OK so we probably need to get rid of some dead-wood (Nos, Kilgallon etc) but our wage bill is only about 10k a week worse than the start of last season as we've shipped a lot of players out already.

(Comm - this isn't a dig at you just at the press and some of the posters on here who keep telling me how we have nothing left to spend when, unless they work at the club, they cannot know this for certain)

Oh - and I agree with the rest of your point Comm - just wish that the AJ link was true and would come off!!

Don't worry about it mate, we all have our views, just like i was always getting grief over my views about constantly chasing that French winger, i hated the idea from the off.

But this AJ rumour is one that i very much was true, and your correct, none of us knows what the clubs has to spend, or what their plans are.

Surely though the same case could have been made about us buying N Zog...but we never pushed the boat out and got him...
This is another one of those teasers that will never in a million years come off imo like...

Maybe we didn’t want N'Zogbia mate, if AJ is available that is?

Maybe SB and SNQ have been given the nod. After all, I think Mancini is still impressed by our willingness to loan City a keeper 2 years ago when they were furked?

Why didn't we sign the lad when we had the chance????? We kept on waiting and waiting and when we did move City came in and took him... We had atleats 2 maybe 3 chances of getting him and we never took him... We could off got him for 5 or 6 mill now we double that figure, we should off got him when we had the chance.

We didn’t get him because City offered HUGE wages. End of.

Why do people assume because we didn’t get in quickly that we lost out on him? Who is to say that City wouldn’t have come in anyway if we had been quicker? They obviously had him watched for ages too and were weighing up a bid and once the Sheiks cheque book came out we were sunk.

We lost out as City is the richest club in the world but as AJ will be seeing now, that comes with its own problems too. A lack or regular sustained game time. He will be lucky to play in 20% of the games this season as the big money signings fight for places. AJ may well lose his chance to play for England next summer if he is a reserve or permanent bench player. Downing will get lots of games and chances to impress Cappello. Will AJ?

Yeah, thats my point. When the Sheiks opened the cheque book they got him. But we where after him before the Sheiks where even at City! So we had a chance to get him when City were not the powerful force they are today. Johnson will player the majority off games for City this season, they have cup competitions the premier league and also the champions league, I can see him playing about 80% of games for City, if he stays injury free.
