I can't imagine what will. http://twentyfour7football.com/archibald-offered-spurs-lewandowski-5277 Former Tottenham striker Steve Archibald has claimed he once offered Dortmundâs Robert Lewandowski to the north London club. Archibald says he offered Spurs the clinical striker, who scored four against Real Madrid in Wednesday nightâs Champions League semi-final first leg, for less than £5 million while he was playing in Poland. The former Spurs player said on Twitter, âJust a note of interest for Spurs fans, I offered Robert lewandowski to Spurs when he was stll playing in Poland, for less than 5m, pity ! âTo be fair, when they said no I offered him to other clubs who also said no !
The worry must've been that he learned a really annoying goal celebration whilst playing for Lech Poznan...
I'm glad he's become as good as he has. Hopefully it'll give Levy a kick up the backside. Also, he's now way out of our reach, which shows that if we want players of top quality, who perhaps look like they'll become world class, we have to act quickly. I know everyone hates the name "Damiao" - but if he's the next one, then we've gotta do something about it.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. 1. Archibald says that other clubs rejected him too. 2. I'm sure there's lots of strikers that were offered to us that we thought were crap and actually are crap. I guess if you want to use this as an excuse to bash Levy you're going to anyway. How many strikers are we supposed to buy? I don't see us playing with two regularly any time soon, so how many can we have in the squad and keep them happy?
I wonder who else he's recommended over the years? Definitely a bit of a balls up, but I'd love to hear why so many clubs passed on him.
Its annoying but he's one of those ones that has kinda bloomed from nowhere so its hard to criticise too much about missing out on him. Also, i still think he might be one of those ones that flourishes at one club (Dortmund) and flops at others.
3. I'm sure there are lots of strikers that were offered to us that we thought were great, bought, and actually were crap
We seem to have a knack of rejecting players when they were young who've now proven to be top class. Beckham, Lewandowski, Zidane (although some reports claim that's bullshit)...
Millwall? Should you really be insulting the club that's kept you in the Championship with our loanees for several seasons?
We didn't reject Beckham, he was part of our youth system and got tapped up by Fergie's mob. All stories about Zidane and Spurs seem to be complete fantasy.
Wasn't the rumour at the time that Becks was "too small" for us? So we let him go? I hope the Zidane rumours are fantasy, IF that were ever to be proved true, whoever made that decision doesn't deserve a place in football.
I believe we once had Beckham, Zidane, Maradona, Pele and Peter Crouch in the same youth team. We let them all go and then chose to re-sign just Peter Crouch.
Beckham joined Man Utd when he was 14 and he 6' tall, so I can't see it having anything to do with his size. If the Zidane rumours do contain any truth, then it was during Gerry Francis' time at WHL, so he doesn't have a place in football any more! We did flog Crouch for £60k, though. Bit of a waste.
