Please don't anyone get into the whole "it's a load of rubbish, it won't bring the benefits etc" discussion. This started off as a mischievous thought about what would be an amusing turn of events in all this, but it does actually have the sense of, "if this idea can be applied here, why wouldn't it then have the same result there?" about it, so for the purposes of this thread, what ever your views are, just assume that the statements from the Allams actually turn out to be correct. If you look at the explanations from the owners, the idea is to attract investment/sponsorship by changing from the common name of "City" to the rarer one of "Tigers" as they feel this will give (or already has given) the club an edge in negotiations where they're competing against other similar "City" clubs, particularly with firms in regions where tigers are revered animals. Now the Council should be trying to attract investment into the area and they have a "City" name. They are also competing with other Councils with that common name to attract investment from abroad into their part of Britain and should be looking for any edge they can find. If the name change were to be approved for the club, and were to prove successful in attracting foreign investment from those areas to us instead of Swansea or another City club, shouldn't the Council be saying they'd replicate the name change for themselves? If a company would sponsor or invest in one football club over another because of the name when other things were equal, those same companies looking to invest in the UK would also choose to invest in partnerships with areas where the authorities had equally modern and dynamic names ahead of common ones. If it's worth significant sums to the club to change, imagine just how much it would be worth to the local economy and local people for the Council to be able to replicate that change on the greater scale. Should we be pushing the Council to make a commitment to follow suit if any name change brings in more money for the club?
I think we have missed the trick here.... Why didn't we just get the council to rename themselves "Hull Tigers Council".... If they had done that in the beginning we would have had a peaceful season thinking about nothing else other than the premiership....
It would be brilliant if HCC decided to call themselves Hull Tigers Council, this nonsense would end instantly.
The HCC should change to "Hull Cod Council"...they'd possibly attract quality business investments from Iceland no doubt ! The members would all be codfathers.
If they did become Hull Tigers Council, just think how much money from Asia they would pull in...... And as for Hull Tigers of Culture 2017, they would have to put on 6 flights a day to Asia just to get people in and out.... And the money and people coming if a name change occurs are guaranteed... Apparently a prominent local businessman said so, and he should know he read it on the internet, so must be true !!
