If 'Pool are still in a relegation struggle at Xmas, should Roy Rodgers change tack?

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Sep 24, 2012.

  1. This is not meant as a wum article. It's an attempt at a serious discussion.

If 'Pool are still at the bottom of the table come Xmas, is there an argument for Roy Rodgers changing his tactics, getting Carroll back, and using Big Sam style hoofball measures to try to ensure their EPL survival?

Or, put it another way, what is the point in playing pretty tippytappy football if you're going to end up playing Championship football?

Or would Mousers relish a stint in the Championship in order to, may be, come back in glory, like the Toon did? That seems like a risky strategy, to me.

    What do people think?

Rodgers has that northern irish "charm", fly over to northern ireland and you will hear the same crap everywhere, they are the masters at spinning a line and making out they know what they are talking about.

No offence to anyone that is Northern Irish! as I know not everyone over their believes they were born to be a "legend" and compiled a 700 page dossier on how to manage a football club.

This "tika taka" nonsense, dominate a game, not score and lose.

Unless you're masters at it, like spain & barca, it doesn't bring real success.

It can be useful for teams like swansea who aren't going to challenge for trophies, yet for Liverpool, I suspect it won't be long before fans realise there is little chance of any real success with Brenda in charge.

Liverpool's owners showed a lack of foresight in this appointment - he didn't create Swansea's style of play, Roberto Martinez did. Rodgers was just a guy parachuted into the already-existing system (like Paolo Sousa before him, and Michael Laudrup after him) with many key players (such as Joe Allen, Nathan Dyer, Angel Rangel, Andrea Orlandi and Ashley Williams) were already in place.

They won't be in the bottom 3 at Christmas as much as i would like them to be. They will need to tweak there tactics if they want to win consistently, the Arsenal game was a good example for me they were never going to out pass them.

Come the end of the season I think Pool and Spurs will be challenging for a similar league position.

If Liverpool are still bottom come Christmas I can't see what change BR can make as he'd have probably tried everything by then.

If Liverpool are in the bottom 3 at Christmas BR will not be there to change tack.

The guy believes his own hype and jumps at the new chance before he is ready. After only half a season managing Watford with reasonable success he jumped to Reading where he was not ready for a club that wanted to go back to the Premiership and was sacked before Christmas.

Now he has one good season in the Prem with Swansea and thinks he knows enough to manage a big club like Liverpool. He simply does not have the experience. He should have learnt that before and waited his time. I think one day he might become a decent manager at the top level but he really has to learn his trade properly first

    You Spuds are unbelievably obsessed...lol

Liverpool will be fine....Unless you hadnt noticed Liverpool have a very young squad that will get better every game....We need a few players in key roles, but they will come....

Arsenal will finish above Spurs and Pool...And Pool and Spurs will be going for positional rivals at the end of the season.

i'd like to know where this idea that Liverpool are as good as Spurs comes from.
    Both changed manager
    Both lost players
    Liverpool don't have a goalscorer
    Spurs strengthened more
Spurs finished a long way clear of Liverpool last year.

What evidence is there that Liverpool have closed the considerable gap from last year? I'm confused.

    With what funds?
or is this simply a case of you needing a new striker and a plan b, which is a role that will be filled by Andy Carrol whence he returns?

I really can't see Liverpool catching us up. We are not disimilar in strength compared to last year, and are up n running in the prem. Liverpool can't buy a win (or Siggy or Dempsey or a replacement for Carrol) and are already falling behind. The youngsters will not suddenly get good over night, just look at Arsenal. It's no co-incidence that since they have bought established players like Merts, Podolski, Arteta and Cazorla that they look much better.

You have no money, hardly any really good players, no attraction manager wise and no wins.....

How do you figure we have no money.....I can see Liverpool making a profit this year. And FSG have plenty of money to spend on the right players. FSG are worth 23 billion just marginally less than Man City. They have said they are not going to spend money badly again, but they will spend when needed and appropriate.....

We will see. As far as im concerned, we will improve throughout the seasonm and Spurs are not the world beaters you seem to think you are

Wether your owners are billionaires or not is irrelevant, my dad bigger than your dad does not work here. Our owner is a billionaire aswell, means nothing to me unless it is pumped into the club.

But our owners are wiser than yours..and the result is what you see purchased for the team.

Not one Spurs fan thinks that we are world beaters...and we don't have to be to come above Liverpool...no where near.

If you have the money, you have to question why FSG failed to offer the extra 2m or so to get Dempsey - a player who you could have really done with...?
