    You are right.

    Safety catches are not enough.

But then there should even if bullets in magazine there should not be one in chamber.

So that "parent" who left said gun in wife's car had

    A) loaded it
    B) chambered a round if it's not a revolver and let's face it who uses a revolver now.
    C) maybe or maybe not left safety on.
    D) left it in car.

He should be done for manslaughter.

This might be a silly idea, but perhaps it'd be a whole lot safer not to have a gun in your handbag when you go shopping.

    yes.

in this case as i read it the man left the gun in his wifes car unbeknownst to her and toddler shot her on highway.

the yanks in their own way came up with the finger printed hand guns that can only be fired by the owner to resolve these rather than think rationally about locking the thing in the glove compartment or better yet not living is such a **** society that you need to be armed when out and about.

The yanks at one time i presume could walk about just fine.

they went wild west, dodge city to reasonable? to gangland in effect...

I was referring to the Walmart shooting in the OP.

America is like a microcosm of international politics. Yanks won't give up their guns voluntarily in the same way that nations won't relinquish their defences for fear of putting themselves at the mercy of more aggressive ones.
The only quick(ish) way to reduce the incidence of gun crime and accidents is to legislate against it so people don't feel at a disadvantage - but we've all seen how well that has gone for Obama.
Educating them out of their gun obsession is the longer term solution, but when you look at how violence pervades so much of their popular culture it's hard to see that happening any time soon.

    i agree

the first step will be technology i think. they will try and make it impossible to fire a gun wihtout the owners hand. that will require all old guns removed so thats an age. the thing is most gun deaths are by being shot by your own gun it seems there i read.

    So... makes some sense.
