Now alot of people on here are worried about strikers for next season? We have signed Ba and still got 3/4 squad players in Ameobi, Best, Lovernkrands and Ranger (who were enough to keep us in the league), AND we are still in the market for a striker (hopefully Sturridge) but no one seems to be concerntrating on the left back position thats going to be a gaping wound when Jose leaves.

Now leaving the striker debate out of it, if it were up to me I would keep him for the season try and show him the progression we are supposedly trying to make and offer him a new contract at the end of the season. If he decides then he needs to leave to further his career then fine but atleast it gives us another year to come up with sutiable replacements instead of rushing it through later in the current transfer window.

That is only my opinion and I'm sure M.A. would like to make some money out of Jose if he is going to leave, but would we rather not have Jose for one more season and look for a QUALITY replacement then looking towards people like Wayne Bridge as a short term quick fix.

But as it stands i can see Jose leaving in the last 2 weeks of the window for 7-10 million, and for a player who doesn't want to sign a new contact with one year left on their current deal i guess it would be a good deal for the club. Although I think Kadar and Ferguson (more a winger inb my mind) could cover left back I wouldn't be very happy with the situation and would rather get another young LB in ala Danny Simpson who I am very excited about.

Personally as I've said I would look towards a proven premiership LB or a young foreigner (diego renan [f.m. im sorry] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTZQNzp01n0)But if/when it does happen that we lose Jose Enrique who would you bring in or would you be happy with the youngsters making the step up.

I'd be asking Carr to find a replacement, someone from abroad like M'Bengue I suppose. Use as much of what we get for Jose as we need to.

The thing is we can sell Jose for 8-10mill now, so why (from MA's point of view) let him leave on a free. He should be offered a new conmtract now, and if he accepts, then great. If he doesn't, we have a month or more to find a good replacement.

Enrique is starting to piss me off by dicking around and leaving us out to dry, it shows no respect. He obviously does not want to play for us which is a great shame because he was a very good player (2nd best lb in the league in my opinion), but we want everyone to want to play for us so I think we should just transfer list him, sell him to anyone who will buy him for £7m+ and then try to buy Izaguirre to replace him.

If he did go i'd like us to go for Ryan Bertrand. Future England Left Back, sure Chelsea were going to deal with Swansea not sure if it was for a loan or transfer but he could be our left back for the next 10 years if we signed him

I agree with you, Pardew must have a good idea who he will get in to replace Enrique. it is better that we sell him now than just let him go for nothing next year.

I too would like Bertrand. Very good player with many years ahead of him. If Ashley isn't willing to spend cash this is the kind of signings we have got to be looking at!!! Cheap british youngsters with lots of potential

I guess Chelsea have a simialr situation at left as we do with keepers. Im sure one will end up having to go out of Bertrand and Van Aarnholt. I wouldnt mind either.

Unfortunately we have no one to blame but ourselves for this situation. We have certainly not lived up to the promises we made Jose when signing on, yet he has stayed and right through a relegation. Now he sees a spot opening up at National level and wants to push himself forward. He was quite happy to do that here until Carroll was sold and he realised we're a selling club looking to make slow progress. Now whereas we are happy with that (in the main), he isn't gonna be because he's already stagnated his career to help us through our mismanagement. Well within his rights to do as he is now and is one player that dissrespect etc cannot be levelled at with any credibility. Even now he is not touting himself around in the newspapers, he's just quietly getting on with pre season hoping he can get a deal to improve his career prospects. Fair enough for me.

I have no real problem with him wanting to go although I would obviously prefer if he did not. However my beef with him is not that he wants to go but the way he has gone about it; ignoring all the phone calls, not really telling the club what he wants to do, delaying talks constantly. If he want to go then fine say that and we can try and sell him this summer so we can get some money for him and we do not have an unwilling player playing for us but instead we can get a replacement in. It is just annoying how drawn out this whole saga has become and Enrique is mostly to blame for all the uncertainty.

The annoying thing is as soon as he leaves, he'll be selected for Spain, and everyone else in the squad with international aspirations (Jonas, Collo etc.) will want to leave to go to a bigger club.

If Jose does leave, I hope he goes to Barca or Bayern. Couldn't stand to see him in a bin-dipper shirt.

Not for me. Ok he shouldn't probably have ignored the calls while on holiday but to be fair he'd probably had enough of the saga at the back end last year. He is doing nothing wrong though at the moment. As I say if was touting himself in the papers I'd be annoyed as he is an employee but he ain't. This is how contracts in football work nowadays. If you let them get down to a year to go, then you have to expect that they'll have a look about and utilise the time available to them. He has no obligation to the club to say one way or the other, just as they had no obligation to sort out his contract. Of course in an ideal world you have loyalty on both sides, the club display they want him, and he goes beyond what his contract requires him to in order to get the best for the club should he leave. But once the club didn't keep to their promises and didn't sort out the contract, they ran the risk of him taking his time and looking at his options. There is no uncertainty. The club are exactly in the position they expected to be. Unless they thought they could have it all their way! Contracts work two ways. And he is pretty clear according to Pardew, he won't sign a contract because he wants to play european football to further his career. Simple, we have two choices 1. Sell him 2. Keep him in the hope we do so well we get into europe and he stays/signs. I think we should be taking option 1 now because we ain't getting into europe with our squad. They must know this which makes me a little worried we'll sell enrique with an hour of the window to go and say "no time for a replacement, but we've got Kadar and Fergie" I hope not but who knows.
