Often thought about this, how different a position we might be in today if it wasn't for Roman turing up at Chelski just at the time he did..think about it. SBR was at the helm, and we'd just been destroyed by Drogba playing for Marseille.
So if Roman hadn't decided to buy Chelski just at that time, maybe SBR would have recommended his interpreter from Barca, a certain Jose Mourhino, to be his successor, and we would've bought Drogba after that display he put in against us. Things could've been a whole lot different then..

We were outbid for Drogba by Chelsea if memory serves so yeah, that side of it is fairly realistic...HOWEVER...Mourinho is doubtful if I'm honest! He'd just won the Champions League (and the UEFA Cup the year before) he was the hottest prospect in the world and we would've just sacked Souness whilst floundering in mid-table...

Reg: All right... all right... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us?
Xerxes: Brought peace!

Dreams are fine, then reality smacks you in the face.

 

Drogba and Shearer upfront, Bellamy, LuaLua and Cort waiting in reserve and youngsters Ameobi and Chopra just gagging for games.

Compare that to;

Best and Ameobi upfront, Lovenkrands, Ranger and Kuqi waiting in reserve and youngsters Airey and SAmeobi just gagging for games.
