Which I'm not and never will be. However, I was pondering if I were the manager what would I do to get the best out of our current playing staff.

It got me thinking about Gary Speed and the current Welsh set-up. I'm half Welsh and half English but have lived in south Wales all my life. I was fortunate my dad took me to the Gate early on because if my mums side had their way I'd probably be a brainless hooligan in Legoland. But when it comes to international football I go and watch Wales on a regular basis.

Speed to give him credit is getting the best out of an average squad but who have one or two star players. A bit like City. Mainly average but some really got individuals. Speed plays an attacking 4-3-3 with Morison, Bale and Bellamy as the front line and Ramsey the attacking mid. The other two mids play box to box.

Looking at City's current squad this formation I think would get the best out of our players. Personally I would put Pitman up top with Maynard and Adomah in support. I think Maynard had the tools to play a little deeper and we may see an even better side to him. I would then have Kilkenny play attacking mid because he had shown an eye for a quality ball but I think he finds it hard in a two man centre mid. If he had Marv and Cisse supporting and protecting him we may see Kilkenny's true qualities. As for the back 4...I don't have a clue! That's an area only money and a good eye for a player can address.

I know this may cause some contention basing it on the current Welsh model but I can't help where I live or how I've been brought up and no one can deny that currently Wales play attractive football because they have a system that plays to their strengths. They've gone from 117 to 45 in the world since this system has been put in place and won 3 of their last 4 against decent opposition. But for Earnshaw the tool who I've never rated they may have stolen a deserved point at Wembley and been unbeaten in 4. Looking at our squad we have a similar squad and if I were DM that's how I would set out City. The formation we currently play plays to no ones strengths.

This is just my opinion but something needs to change at the Gate sooner rather than later.

    .

NM is not on song, but the reasoning is sound, well nearly, PITTERS and STEADY with Clarkie that would leave ADDY to do what he is better at, running at em and passing, someone took the pee out of his passing/crossing..a joke?, he supplies a lot the "assists" for our goals and he will get better, is getting better. Unless injured I bet he is the only name printed on the team sheet, the rest are written in!!!

i wouldn't mind seeing ALB upfront in a 4-3-3 formation, seen a rumor (alright it was on transfer rumors) but it was very interesting, el-hadji diouf or however you spell it, this season Woolford, JCR AND Bolasie just wont get us promoted, imagine havin albert on one side and diof on the other, also yes again its on the transfer rumor site but Jlloyd Samuel of bolton, we now have connection with bolton due to own and dereks time at st jonnstone, so perhpas these 2 signing will improve our "imbalance"

'no one can deny that currently Wales play attractive football because' -
they have good players now playing for them. Without good players it doesn't matter which system you play and good managers fit the system to the players available.

A few years ago Wales only had Giggs of any note and SAF stopped him playing most of the time. Now with the real quality of the likes of Bale, Ramsey,Ledley, Ashley Williams and Bellamy Speed can adapt a system to suit.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Adomah is as good as Bale for example. Redprint is right a good manager will find a system to suit the qualities in any given squad. I think with our current options 4-3-3 may be a good option. Remember that system got us our only 3 points against Leicester. Millen played it too negatively with the midfield 3 not busting a gut to support the front 3 often enough.

If I was manager (*cough cough) I would be selling off 3/4 of the squad in the summer and rebuilding from the ground up (including the backroom staff). It might sound harsh but I think there are too many at the club who are hapy to sit aroud mid table and just survive each season.
Given the amount of free transfers that come available each summer from the top teams I don't see why we can replace players we currently have with them to improve a team without spending big.
I'm slightly confused why wiggy is still at the club but guessing he only joined this season so payoff would be quite big. Guessing he will step in as development coach now Walsh has left.
Think the first thing that needs doing is finding James a new club as you have question whether he is worth payig £20k a week (plus bonuses). With James gone maybe Maynard would sign a new contract as he wants to be the highest paid player and we cannot afford to pay him over £20k but with James gone our next highest player currently is apparently on £10k.
