This is a genuine question by the way... If Danny decides to sign along the red and white dotted line, should he issue an apology over his derogatory remarks with respect to SAFC? Would an apology help his cause? Or are we as fans of SAFC expected to simply forget that Danny ever made those comments about our club? It would be very easy to administer... An interview with the Echo where Danny is asked a number of questions including his previous comments about SAFC. Danny will have to suggest that his statements were only tongue in cheek north eastern banter and that he has always held the utmost respect for the biggest club in the north east. That would buy him much more time with the fans... As it stands, if he signs, many of the fans are quite simply waiting for him to make a mistake and before you know it, up to the surface will his 'mag past' rise. I see Mickey Gray going to the media stating that Danny should only be judged on his goals, placing a very positive spin on the recruitment of DG, even though it hasn't happened as of today. However, Mickey failed to state in his latest article what the outcome of having a DG at the club who fails to score goals... It's an article that deny's the potential for an abrupt failure, spinning positively yet denying the potential for an unsavoury future. Sure Mickey we are all able to dream, but in your world of millions of pounds, the working class majority are not quite so forgiving or forgetting....
Link to mickey grays comments http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/su...objectid=32686522&siteid=79310-name_page.html I think he just has to explain it was banter and get on with it
It would be an hollow apology imo. Let him travel up for the medical, pass it, offer him about £10,000 a week more than he's on AND then say tough luck buster, f*ck off. Decent player not doubting that but you cannot tell me he didnt mean what he said about us.
MG has managed to forget totally the fact that Spotty faced **** brought shame and disprespect to the red & white shirt and Super Don celebrated scoring a goal against the filth like he'd just won the lottery, thus dispelling his supposed love of the dark side? Any apology he (DG) tries to make now will actually worsen my contempt of him even further to be honest and I'd sooner he just didn't come here but if he does, then I will just have to accept it like everyone else here? I cant stop it and I cant change it. All I can do is hope and pray he isn't another little spotty faced **** like Clark, or a spineless woman beating low life like Chopra and more of a Don Hutchinson. If he has a bad start or a mare in the derby (or a no show feigning injury or such like) then he will be at the bottom of a large stinking **** pile, with no visible means of climbing to the top and a lot of people on the terraces just dying to add to the pile. Me in particular. I don't agree with booing players in the norm as its not usually very helpful but if this lad turns out to be just another Clark looking to take the piss, then he will get worse than just boo's imo and the abuse he receives will be just fine by me. We shall see soon enough who is right and who is wrong here.
Can't force somebody to apologise for taking elegance with his favourite club and talking about his rivals. He's not a SAFC player. We can piss and whine to our hearts content about him but it won't make a difference. If MON feels he can bring something to the squad than so be it. nothing we can do. But if he does come lets not waste our clubs money by making him public enemy number one. Happy strikers score goals. I wouldn't sign him personally but if he does I'll back him, just like i backed Clark and Bracewell when he returned. I'm sure he's professional and just wants to enjoy his football while living close to his family.
He will have to do more than just that mate. his attitude and work-rate will have to be much higher than the rest of the team to win hearts and minds here after what he has said. One slip up; one interview that smells wrong; one dodgy picture and he is ****ed with no return. I'd also add as above, he needs to try 10 times harder in the derby game as well and celebrate any goal with heart and passion too. Any heads down, none celebration and I'll be on his ****ing case like a nasty Byker gilrs rash.
Agreed mate he has to hit the ground running. I just hope it doesn't come back to kick mon in the nuts by signing him.
Cheers fella. Sounds like it's a done deal with Mickey speaking out. Not a very quick player, quite slow so will therefore have to play further up the pitch than Fletcher and I don't see how that is going to work... Yup your right, I'm quite certain he did mean those comments too, probably spoken from his heart and that is a major concern. People speak of professionalism however we all witnessed choprats 'professionalism'. Yes Danny Graham is a different person however we have witnessed that 'professionalism' is bollox and are therefore entitled to ask questions. Hollow or not, I believe that we are entitled to an apology in one form or another because in this case, the words were spoken BEFORE he came/comes to the club. If a man applied to join a local gentlemans club having told the treasurer to **** off a few months earlier, do you believe that man would be accepted with open arms or would an apology be required prior to an application being submitted? Danny Graham made those statements and they won't just disapear or be forgotton, they exist and they will require to be acknowledged in order to try and bury the hatchet that many fans will be harbouring. This isn't a negative spin, it is a reflection of reality from the mindset of your average Joe Bloggs football supporter. We can all sit in lala land in a state of denial hoping that it all works out, but what if it doesn't work out? For me, an apology is required in some form or another and this player must go public to show his respect for SAFC. Everybody else connected to the club is going public, so why not the man himself? Ofcourse Danny will have had many thoughts about joining SAFC and the only way to deal with situation is to acknowledge those comments and make an apology. He will gain much respect for that and it will be a positive start as a representative of SAFC. I could sit on the bench for nufc earning 35k per week no problem, wouldn't stop me from thinking they are a bunch of ****s though, would it?
One of his interviews already smells a little wrong to me Cest! For that, IMHO a genuine apology is required and I believe that an apology will help his cause. At the end of the day, we can attempt bury and forget the bad memories as they fester away or we can bring them to the surface, acknowledge them and attempt to deal with them... If Graham joins, the only way he can attempt to become 'one of us' is to display that he is fully commited to the red and white cause. Otherwise, we are quite simply waiting until the day he leaves, always being the outsider of the club. Do you really wish to support SAFC through the next 4-5 years in that way? I don't and I suspect you don't either. Ofcourse, an intelligent gentleman like yourself will already be aware that the dynamics of today are quite different to the days when clark joined SAFC. In today's world, clark and choprat are mags that live in the memories of the fans of SAFC and no matter what, Graham will be associated with 'the likes of clark and choprat' irrespective of however positive we try to look at this situation. Those memories will only serve to hasten the abuse that Graham may be exposed to, should he not have an excellent beginning. Like it or not, it is a reflection of the way most peoples minds work, as you already know.
I'm still hoping it all falls through. Any inkling of something going wrong regarding his attitude, especially around derby games and he will deserve all the abuse he gets.
