So we know Ade is off to the AFCON, I was thinking last night what AVB would do IF Defoe picks up an injury. If you were Andre, how would you go about selecting the team?

Do you think Dempsey, who'd seem the obvious bet, could lead the line in a formation such as:

    Lennon, Sandro, Dembele, Bale
    Sig
    Dempsey

OR do we play Bale there, who to me, has all the attributes to play as a striker (think he even played there pre-season didn't he?) and take that risk? So go with something like:

    Lennon, Sandro, Dembele, Sig
    Dempsey
    Bale

OR try and do a "Spain" and go 6 in midfield with a defensive trio and attacking trio:

    Sandro, Dembele, Parker
    Lennon, Dempsey, Bale

My preference would actually be going for the Spain formation, I think without a recognised striker, we'll need Bale, Lennon AND Deuce to step up and try and share the role. With Parker and Sandro behind them it'll hopefully give them a bit more freedom up top and less of a worry on the defensive issues. Could work...?

Dempsey, I reckon. I can't see how pretending to be Spain or Barca is going to work, they have Xavi and Iniesta whilst we have Sandro and Dembele who are nothing even like them in playing style, let alone in ability.

It's not pretending to actually be Spain or Barca, it's adopting a similar formation to utilise the best we've got. Dempsey isn't an out and out striker like Defoe and Ade so trusting him to lead the line COULD be a bad idea, where as giving Bale, him and Lennon a bit more freedom up top would lighten the pressure on him.

Dempsey has all the right attributes though and I personally reckon AVB will probably go for him to lead the line should JD get injured.

we'd be up **** creek in all honesty. I don't even want to think about it.

I guess it'd have to be Sig slightly behind Dempsey. - then a switch up if it's not working. Townsend to come on for sig or demps and bale to go up front?

It just makes you realise how badly we need a striker. - Regardless of Ade now showing he's going to be absent (again), it's only Defoe and Bale who have scored regularly for us. - and now a few from Dempsey! that can't continue.

Yeah it's a scary thought really mate. Still makes me wonder why 1) We never kept Saha and 2) By not keeping Saha, why the **** did we allow Kane to go on loan?!

Yeah I think the general consensus will be to put Dempsey more advanced and bring in Sig behind. Gotta say though I do think a front three of Bale, Lennon and Deuce with Parker, Sandro and Dembele behind could be quite interesting... Football Manager/ FIFA here I come! <laugh>

The thing is it's complicated to make it work and trying to change at team with lower quality players, who are much worse at passing(in particular and don't know the tactics is setting us up to fail. The simplest thing seems to me to push Dempsey forward and make do with one player playing out of position, I don't even think he'd be all that bad as a striker.

Kane can be recalled this month, can't he?

Failing that, Cameron Lancaster is fancying his chances of a spot on the bench.

    Yeah fair points.

As I said I do think Deuce would be the preferred choice, the only thing he lacks is pace to keep up with Bale and Lennon on a counter. Bar that, he's got all the right attributes.

Noticed I spelt "injured" wrong in the thread title, is there a way I can change this?

Hopefully we can because I'd do it ASAP, especially as Damiao is looking more likely to stay at Inter than join.

Maybe wrong but hasn't Lancaster been injured for most of the season? (hopefully Spurcat can clear this up if he reads it)... May have to be Obika!!!

Just changed it for you, it's "edit post" > "go advanced" to get to the screen where you can change the title FYI.

Unless I did this wrong, I think that only changes the title in the first post, not the whole thread title?

kane is not someone who we can just put into the team and say "go for it". there's so much at stake this season and he's not ready for a top 4 push.

At the risk of starting a full scale riot, Obika seems to be doing well in our development squad picking up a lot of goals <run>

When you get to the screen, edit the bit that says "Title:" next to it and that should already have the current title written in it for you to edit.

Tried that. If you look at my prediction thread, the title was changed (added....), but it only affects the title above the first post, not the thread as displayed in the Spurs forum.

Kane wouldnt do any more than what we have got...just because it says striker next to his name.

i think Sigurdsson seems to have started to settle down and come out of his shell. He would thrive with the chance i think.

Dempsey is doing fine for me. For what we paid,he has been a success and he certaimly knows how to hit the onion bag in the PL.

i think we would be ok if its goals we fear in the absence of Ade since he hasnt done much on that front.

He's 22. Does that make him an over age player for the development squad? By that age he should be playing or have been moved on

Think his deal runs out this season so he's probably playing to attract attention now. Deep down he probably knows he won't feature for us. A shame as in his earlier years, I thought he looked a good prospect. His first spell at Yeovil was really promising but hasn't progressed since that.

I am sure you're right SoS, I believe his contract does expire this summer. His rawness served him well in those early times at Yeovil and his pace caught defenders by surprise, but as you say, he never really kicked on from there. he seems to have got some of his appetite for the game back these days and at the moment looks capable of being a reasonable signing for a lower division club.

On Cameron Lancaster, he's coming back from injury and hasn't kicked a ball yet this season.
