Must be. I can't see NP leaving us with just Hobbs, Chester and Mcshane. Unless he plans to use Bradley. I didn't think we would get Ayala a few weeks ago, but I expect him to come now.
ayala or someone else but with the liverpool friendly and his love of the club i cant imagine it'd be anyone else. ayala was miles better than gerrard last season anyway so from chester, hobbs and ayala our defense would be much improved.
Sorry, don't agree there. I thought Ayala and Gerrard were on a par and formed a very good partnership, second only to the partnership formed by Gerrard and Chester. Interesting stats from last season showing goals conceeded per partnership: Gardner/Zayatte 04 Cooper/Zayatte 03 Gerrard/Ayala 200040112120 Gerrard/McShane 1 Gerrard/Zayatte 0200212 McShane/Zayatte 1 Gerrard/Chester 010210102010 Gerrard/Hobbs 111114113
Ayala probably had more 'class' and consistency, but Gerrard has more ability in terms of defending (no-nonsense if you like). Their partnership worked very well because of their different styles. I wouldn't like to call it... I would be extatic if Ayala joined - he could form an excellent partnership with Hobbs. He obviously loves the club and would make an instant impression with fans again. Stating the friendly with Liverpool is over a signing, I would be surprised if Gulacsi was the only player involved in a transfer
My concern with Ayala is the Liverpool deal with Blackpool for charlie adam. Wasn't it mentioned Blackpool were getting one or two players in permanently as part of the deal?
That thought popped into my head too. I haven't heard/read anything about who the players supposedly going the other way will be though.
I think the players are Stephen Darby and Jonjo Shelvey. I don't know for definite, but that's what reports are saying. Ayala is probably worth around £1.5m, so if he was in the deal I'd be very surprised
You can draw any conclusions you like. My conclusion is that the Hobbs / Gerrard partnership was nowhere near as good as the Gerrard / Chester partnership.
Someone had better pass the news about Stephen Darby on to Chazz, seeing as he can no longer see my comments.
