We all know the Council are trying to find a buyer without much success.

    How about this?

Swansea City buy the site and create a pitch for Sandfields boys club.
I'm envisaging something neat and tidy with perhaps some stone seating (Colloseum style) for parents to watch. The site would also include a small play area (emphasis on gym/physical activity) and most importantly a tribute to the origins of Swansea City F.C., something comprehensive and permanent.
Maintenance and security of the site could be the responsibility of Sandfields F.C.

    Classy no?

For those not from the area - the Sandfields is the place where Swansea City F.C. was born and where we played our home games for the best part of a 100 years. A lot of Swansea City players were born and grew up in the area. Think of it as a rectangle on the map, a series of street containing terraced houses. There is no grass apart from the Vetch field site and the boys club currently plays their home games and train a couple of miles down the coast.

If they haven't sold it yet, then the club should be renovating it as a training facility.

As they walk the hallowed walls and look up at the North Bank, they'll be able to hear the song that's sung at the Liberty and feel the history while they're training.

(not sure if I over did it on the sentimentality!)

Housing. I'm sure that many Swans fans will snap up a house or apartment built on the north bank.

terror, i am with you, my son plays for Sandfields and i believe they have been trying for years to get this as a pitch for us, to be maintained by the club. But Swansea council being Swansea council. There would be no profit in it for them, so i gather they have stuck 2 fingers up to that idea. How doesnt that surprise me. Now, if there was something in it for them, then i am sure it would have been done years ago.

It's a prime area that will be sold for housing eventually, there is no way it will be anything other than that. Though it would be lovely to have a pitch there for the sandfields, the reality is its not going to happen. The best we can hope for is that one of the streets will be called vetch st and north bank when it's done.

I wouldn't want the club to spend untold millions on there in my opinion, the cost of it would be a fortune, I would prefer money to be spent on the club as it is, an academy, training facilities for players, stadium expansion and new players.

as good an idea it is it's a no goer, The council have no intention of adding new pitches for local football .The Liberty when built not only replaced the athletics stadium but also removed at least 3 full size pitches adjacent , the new academy has removed RTB from the list also .The council would rather keep all games centrally at Tir canol & Ashleigh Road to cut down on man power and overtime imo,

why not do what arsenal did with highbury and convert to luxury accomodation, with the pitch as the central garden area

It'll definitely be housing, we all know that.

But if it goes to pubic use I can't see why a narrow section of the local population should benefit. No offence, but I don't see that as classy, I see it rather exclusive as it would benefit relatively few.

An ideal solution imo would have been for the Swans to buy it and as has been suggested renovate it as a state of the art training facility, thus providing a link between the past and present.

Unfortunately, that won't happen either as the Swans are already committed to projects elsewhere.
