Despite how much he is despised in Leeds, i'd rather have a poor cashless club with Bates in charge instead of been a heartless franchise like some of Europe's clubs have turned into like Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Red Bull teams ect. I wouldn't trade the best players in the world for our passion, tradition and history. Today's game is just so commercialized and flooded with money, it's like watching NFL with their ad breaks every 2 seconds when watching Premier League.
It would be nice to have a blend, difficult to do admittedly, but when we lose out on players to the likes of ipswich, bristol city etc, thats pretty poor...
Unfortunately the people in power who decide what goes are the people with money. And those people generally want more money at any cost. They are ruthless, heartless bastards and if I ever met any of them (especially those at the top of pharmacutical companies) I'd give them a good hiding.
That's why the Premier League is so boring. In 20 years since it formed, only 4 teams have won the title, and Blackburn and Chelsea were funded to get there, and the next new team to win it will be Man City and that's money as well. As sponsership etc. has increased, the gap between top clubs and midtable clubs has grown. We all know who will be in the top 6 this season. No surprise or unpredictability in football anymore really. Pre-Premier League a team could be promoted from the 2nd division and win the 1st division the season after.
